'Grey's Anatomy's' Sarah Drew Opens Up About Daughter's Premature Birth

Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Drew had a dramatic episode in real life when she gave birth prematurely last month. ET's Brooke Anderson visited the actress at her home to see how baby Hannah is doing now.

I was born three months premature at Lb 10oz and went down to 1Lb 8oz, I am now a healthy 15 almost 16 year old girl. man am I grateful for all the doctors, nicu nurses and staff that helped me and my twin sister (born 1Lb 14oz) live. It reminds me everyday to be grateful for what I have. god bless you all.

i was born at 5 months along with my twin sister we spent a year in the hospital and she almost past away , were 17 now but it was scary for my parents to have lived through that

Alliebee buzz lungs are one of the last things to develop fully. Its not unusual for babies born early but "full term" to have some issues with their lungs.

3 weeks early is considered term, but her lung development was probably just slow. “just” 6lb13oz is within average range for a 40wk newborn. They made a much bigger deal out of this that it actually is. That baby was not premie, just had lung problems.

Nurse Onion a baby is not considered term until 39 weeks now. They changed it a few years ago.

Kelly Whicker actually in 2013 they changed it from 39 to 37 weeks. By 37 weeks the overwhelming majority of babies are fully developed and at a healthy birth weight. I’d hope they don’t change it back to 39 because that would literally be a step back in neonatal medicine.

Parents can tell people they're pregnant at 15 weeks so it's certain that the baby's I'll have a chance at living , you just start developing so yea it's impossible

Weight has little to do with health as a baby. They go more by lungs, heat, brain, and other kidney function as well as if you can breathe/eat in your own

Crohn’s Professional weight has a lot to do with it - 2 main reasons. In the womb, babies are constantly being fed, when they’re born they’re only being fed every few hours, they need the fat to feed them nutrition between feeds to give them the energy they’re used to (this is also why babies lose so much weight the first week of life). The main thing people worry about with small babies is body temp, babies can’t regulate their body temp so they rely on fat as insulation. But usually more than 6lbs isn’t a worry with anything.
