You realize there are hundreds of thousands of actresses out there and they don't all look and talk a certain way, right? Jodi Foster, Claire Danes, Natali Portman are all very well educated women who are just as incredibly articulate as this woman is.

My nephew is on the Autism spectrum. It was worse when he was younger and folks used to shy away from him because of some of his behavioural setbacks. & I used to think.... if they only know how awesome and sweet and loving and intelligent this little guy is. Folks really exhibit hatred and "stupidity" toward what they do not understand.

I disagree but I get your sentiment. I've known of those with DS to be violent. Hence why a lot end up in homes. Obviously not all DS are like that. But when you speak how you do, that all DS are like this child, you just demonize those with DS children who turn out aggressive. What I'm saying, it's not a gene thing. It's societal.

@@winkblue6851 I grew up with a boy with Down Syndrome. Same age as me. It was not all cuddles. It was hard a lot of the time. I'm completely with you. Portraying all DS people as loving and cuddling will do as good as portraying Autism as "different but gifted", as having a special talent. It leaves the others, the ones that do not fit that stereotype, in a harder place. I volunteered at an Autism-focused association. Reality is not that pink and glittery. Yes, disabled kids, different kids, can be wonderful all on their own, but let's not wash over the struggle.

As someone who has a learning “disability”, so many so called “disabled” kids are beautifully gifted with the ABILITY to love and give kindness so unconditionally, to be brilliant in math or science, natural artistic talents, memories that can rival elephants. I call them diamonds, because they are a beautifully created with multiple facets. The learning , emotional, or processing struggles are just one facet of many. (I am now pursuing my doctorate btw.)

My isolation started when my family moved across the country to a place where the disabled were seen as something to be afraid of and were separated from the other kids in school. I was not disabled enough for the school to do that to me but to disabled to fit in or make any friends. It left me afraid to trust anyone. So if you see your kid struggling don't let them end up like me find away to off set the psychological beating they get at school. Isolation is something that every disabled or "different" person goes though it really shouldn't be that way.
