Greyhound's First Time
In this video, we let you know how our newly adopted greyhound Luka has settled in to our home. Luka also has his first trip to the beach and first trip shopping.

Luka has settled in so well. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to one you love so much, and it is wonderful to see you open your heart and home to a new greyhound. We had to say goodbye to our beautiful boy, Dash, last Friday. Thank you for your video - it helps to ease the pain we are feeling.

My beautiful big gentle boy Ernie went over rainbow bridge 2 weeks ago and i miss him so dearly. I totally understand how you feel about your dear Magnus, they leave a big hole behind don’t they. But i know they are still with us always and forever in our hearts 🐾🐾💕💕

Another fine video featuring your adorable greyhounds. Luka seems to be adapting quite well. He has such a lovely brindle and the sweetest face. So happy for you both! Scout seems to like him too, and she is adapting to having him around. The footage of them having some chicken broth was interesting; no resource guarding there. That is a great sign! Lovely shots of YellowCraig Beach and the sunken German boat. Cheers to you both and have a great week!

My wife and I recently adopted our own retired greyhound and your videos really helped us see what we were getting ourselves in for and what to look out for and helped put our mind at ease with some of our worries. Our girl is now settled in and doing really really well.

That's great to hear.Glad your pup has settled in well. It can be nerve racking when it is all new. Hearing that adopters found the videos useful and eased their concerns is the number one reason that i kept making them.

Thanks for the latest video of Scout and Luka’s adventures together. They seem so relaxed and happy around the house and out on adventures. That makes me happy as well. So heartwarming to see him settling in and they do look like they get on very well together - of course you’ll miss Magnus and always will every loss of a greyhound leaves a greyhound shape hole in the heart but they give so much love our hearts just expand to allow more of them into our lives 😍😍

You are so kind to respond so quickly and in such detail. I usually clap and whistle to scare away rabbits, but I was half asleep and Legs bounded into the yard (garden). Unfortunately, it was not a good outcome for the bunny. No way to rescue her. You are so right about sleep startle. But that seems resolved now. He quite likes his crate. You made me feel much better. I am pretty banged up from falling when I chased him. I feel less discouraged by his prey drive. I guess I'll need to tell friends not to pet him. Let the dog approach them. - Canadian Scot MJ

Magnus love his crate his other bed was out of the way at the side of the sofa so he was visable but you did not have to go near him when sleeping. They tend to mellow as they get older too.

Magnus ignored his comfy beds in our living room for the first few months and would lay on the floor. Just not used to them. Eventually he did then start using the beds.

Oh look at him…so happy and content…they just love being on higher positions, maybe in his kennel the only warmer and clean place…my Boy sleeps on the couch and in the Bed..😂didn’t take long..

There is absolutely no way anything is falling out of the treat cupboard without Luka spotting it. If that was our house, he'd cop an accidental elbow to the head (prob more than once)!!

Scout is getting on well. Back to her usual self. Only difference is she thinks she is the protector now that Magnus has gone.

Any advice for new greyhound mom? My boy snaps at me if we sleep together. He almost bit a friend who pet him. Today he chased and killed a rabbit. Are all greyhounds this predatory, aggressive? He's 3 years old. Would training improve any of this? I am starting to feel afraid of him.

Magnus had sleep startle so touching him whilst sleeping was a big no no. Your pup sounds like they may have it too. Due to the sleep startle, Magnus was not allowed on the bed or sofa and we would always leave him be when sleeping or dozing (as you cannot always tell when they are sleeping). I would recommend that your pup is not allowed on the bed or sofa anymore. Magnus was a super cuddle monster when awake and would have you pet him all day. But when sleeping and touched he would react aggressively. We were never bit but got close a few times. In his later years the sleep startle eased. But you just need to develop the practice of leaving them alone when sleeping. You will get better at reading him and knowing if he is sleeping or not. The prey drive is strong in greyhounds but it can be managed. We kept the pups on lead unless in a secure area. For our garden, we would always do a quick check for cats or squirrels before letting the pups out to roam free. Leave it training helped alot with prey drive and cats when on walks. I understand the sleep startle and prey drive can be scary at first, but there is nothing to be afraid off as they are generally very gentle when awake. I have made some videos about prey drive and sleep startle. Hope they help. Feel free to ask more questions.

Sleep startle or sleep aggression is fairly common, you just need to learn to roll with it. Our loving boy can be terrifying if you touch him while sleeping but has never hurt us. My wife originally wanted to get rid of him because he was so scary but now we just laugh at him when if he wakes up snapping and call him crazy dog. He's never bit or hurt anyone, other than that he has all the the goofy and loving greyhound traits.
