That happened because the ender pearl despawned because he was waiting so long for someone to punch him down and he forgot about how even projectiles despawn.

@@ohwow9559 yes it should that’s how Minecraft works even some mobs despawn so yes it should despawn and if you don’t believe me build an ender pearl stasis chamber and throw an ender pearl and then set a time for five minutes and the ender pearl will despawn
