‘Grieving’: Fatima Payman discusses her move to quit the Labor Party

5 күн бұрынIndependent Senator and former Labor politician Fatima Payman says she is “grieving” amid her exit from the Labor Party during a wide-ranging interview with Sky News Australia.
Senator Fatima Payman announced she will officially leave Labor on Thursday, bringing to an end speculation about her future after her exile from the party's caucus.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Sunday formally suspended the Senator after she vowed to continue defying Labor leadership and cross the floor in support of future motions to recognise a Palestinian state.
“This is going to have a huge impact on me and the way I conduct myself in this place,” Ms Payman told Sky News Australia.
“It’s no longer just rocking up to the chamber and following the whip’s lead.
“It’s actively understanding pieces of legislation and doing the research myself, so it’s going to be a challenge but I’m looking forward to it.”

A law needs to be passed if a politician of any party who is elected by the electorate who voted for that particular party decides to leave and become an independent should be made to resign and an election for that particular seat or senate position be held .The individual who resigned should not be allowed to sit as an independent unless they were given the privilege by the electorate.

She should resign from Parliament and stand as an independent. Then we’ll see the level of support she has from West Australians for her views. Our system of government is flawed. Who does she represent now? Her resignation has disenfranchised Western Australians from being represented. And she stays on her $211K plus plus salary for the next 5 years! Time to change the system . She’s not entitled to gain such benefits!

The only thing she should be calling for right now is return of the hostages to Israel. She needs to go and talk to the girls that were brutally raped and slaughtered. She needs to educate herself. most Palestinians support Hamas - they want them in power - that is not a reality that gives Israel any safety. Israel has offered numerous two state solutions. This is NOT an Australian matter - this is an Israeli matter. This woman needs to butt out of matters that are not her concern.
