These were THE cards to collect as an 11 year old in 1989. I remember opening 2 wax boxes with my dad and pulling 2 Griffey Jr's and being so happy. Thanks for the nostalgia!!!

I opened SO much of this as a kid. My dad worked at a warehouse and would bring damaged boxes home that they couldn’t sell to stores but they were never that damaged.

A rarity: crisp, clean, stain-free cards from a wax box. Glad to see two Griffey cards pulled. I enjoyed hearing you mention all of the veteran players and providing facts and figures about them. You are a walking baseball encyclopedia!

The very first box I ever opened was 1990 Topps. I penny sleeved and top loaded the Rookies and parallels to come to find out from an experienced collector that they were all nearly worthless, I didn’t care though, 😂 I still have those cards sitting in a box tucked away forever!

This has to be by far the most meaningful set out there for me along with topps I bought more of this as a kid than any other set out there . It planted a passion for collecting that is hard to understand unless you have been there.I know just by hearing you talk and reading the comments you all know what I mean. Something was imprinted in my brain that must release a feel good chemical anytime I pick up a card today. Love this hobby great job Erik

These packs were 50 cents at our local grocery store growing up and the best part of running errands with my mom was convincing her to buy me a pack or two. I rooted for the Twins and every Puckett, Viola, Hrbek and Gagne made my day, no autos or parallels required. I still love collecting cards but it sure was simple back then.

'89 Donruss was the 1st pack that I ever opened. My LCS was actually a comic book store that my aunt worked at. She and my mom got me into card collecting and I'm still into it to this day. Great video, Jabs!!!

I actually just ripped 2 boxes of '89 Donruss that I found at my parents' house. We never opened them when we were kids and my dad saved them all these years. Pulled a Griffey, Sheffield, and Johnson in each box! Only 1 Biggio and 1 Smoltz though. Still had a blast opening them though!

I remember getting a box of these for my 13th birthday- still have all of em too, my Mom stored them away for years for me until I finally organized all my collection during Covid. Love the Griffey card, so much nostalgia!

89 Donruss and Upper Deck are my childhood. Plain and simple. Ripped "so much" of it. By that, I mean little old me thought a pack or two a month was a lot. It was, and it's definitely all relative. Great set.

Love 89 donruss! I have a couple of these Griffey RC cards from when I collected as a kid. Time to dig those out to see what condition they are in. Who knows, maybe they are worth grading! Thanks for sharing another great throw back Thursday!

Wow 1989 wish it was 1989 I was 20 years old. I’m guessing these where 40cents a pack maybe even less back then unfortunately I was spending my money on bad things. Leave it to jabs to bring back memories that’s what I love about watching your videos the memories. Remember kids stay in school and always eat your vegetables. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. 89 donruss is by far my favorite donruss release. Despite being junk wax era,, I couldn't pull a griffey jr to save my life. Ironically I finally pulled this card a month ago from a subscription box rack pack. Felt like I was back in 89. Thanks for the opportunity to win

I remember leaving my youth Saturday bowling league, going across the street to the LCS and buying a box of 89 Donruss for about $18. I was $15 and had my own $$ from a paper route. We were all about Ken Griffey Jr!

I remember getting the '89 Upper Deck set as a gift and being so excited about the Griffey! My son used to go back "Griffy" and lots of people have asked if we named him Griffin for Ken Griffey Jr. or Robert Griffin III.

Started collecting in 88, but really got into it big time by 89. Still love smelling those old card packs. Just went through my hand collected 89 Donruss set and noticed I was missing that Carlos Quintana RR... Grew up in NE outside of Pawtucket and Quintana was a super star in the minors. Can't exactly remember but I think Boston moved on from him fast because Mo Vaughn was there at the same time.

Good ol Donruss. I bought an entire case of 90 Donruss that a guy found in a storage closet of a grocery store he owned. Bought the whole case for $35.

When you lifted up the cover and exposed the packs, it instantly took me back to the liquor store in 1989 when I would stop by with just enough change to buy a couple of packs. Good times, for sure.

The 1989 Donruss is one of my favorite boxes to break from time to time just to find a Griffey Jr. Being from Hawai'i it's hard to get any type of product, so when I find these on Ebay at a good price, I'll buy it and sit on them for a while and when I need to break open a box, I'll sit down and open a whole box.

I remember a buddy of mine was a big LA Raiders fan and I traded him a couple Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen cards for a stack of baseball cards he didn't want anymore. Right in the middle was the Griffy from 89 Donruss. I remember coming across it and shaking when I showed my dad. Truthfully one of my most nostalgic cards.

One of the first cards my father gave to me was the Ken Griffey jr rookie from this set. I kept a picture of him in his youth days playing ball is the same sleeve as the Griffey! Great memories

People can say what they want about junk wax, but I still love it! Simple designs with no shine and a little gritty feel to them. Might not be any million dollar cards but they've left lasting memories for millions of people.

Donruss definitely got alot of my parents money in 89’ 😂 back then in the 80’s and 90’s there were so many awesome players, the World Series were always epic, and that era is the reason I’m a baseball fan. Mattingly was my favorite player also!!

This brings back memories. I remember being a 7 year old kid and getting these packs on the weekends after baseball games. I remember ripping them open with my dad. I still have the Griffey RR and now I'll have to grab a box and see if I can pull him again.

I bought 2 packs of Donruss for $1 at a flea market. I got both Gary Sheffield and Ken Griffrey rated rookie back to back! Ha. That was intro to Donruss. My favorite cards from the 89 Donruss are Ozzie Smith, Rickey Henderson, and greg maddux

Love ripping the old junk wax. Tough to pull the Donruss Griffey RC in Gem Mint. For whatever reason the percentage of PSA 10s for the Donruss Griffey RCs is lower than the other mainstream Griffey rookies.
