I watched this movie again tonight and am reminded how "similar" the music & arrangement was to "drum circles" i put on & facilitate. I go into schools, companies, organizations, after-school programs & outreach with as many as 80-100 of my percussion instruments. I often work with people who've never played musical instruments before. And it poses unique challenges when people have neither played, nor have much music aptitude. Fortunately for this movie, they had months to screen, cast, and teach these kids to play these parts. Compare that to my going into a school with an assortment of percussion instruments, and within 30-60 minutes, I've got kids rocking out. Age can make a big difference too, for when kids reach 14, 15, and 16 they’ve often had some music exposure & developed some skills.

TheHolyDiver 1 both were. Tenacious D was a project made by Jack, school of Rock was written by Mike White (the guy who plays Jack’s roommate) for Jack to play. The entire reason he wrote it was because he thought it was a cool idea for a Jack Black movie.

I generally loved this movie full on full, Jack Black is one of my favourite actors, and I loved all the children as they had great character development, Tomika and Jack Blacks had a great relationship and the ‘body positivity’ chat really struck me, I loved the summer comedy, of her being a goodie tooshie, but also being confident was fun to watch, the ‘loser kid’ was also awesome, and there’s a ton more I loved, definitely a fun movie to watch when it’s the school weekend to pump you up for school.

It's clever how Dewey is talking to them in such a delicate and non-pressuring way during this scene, knowing full well that his idea could well just be a flash in the pan pipe dream.

A way of talking learned from years of being in bands with musicians. A whole new level of flakiness not seen by mere mortals.

You tip it on the side and cello! It's a bass! Best quote ever😂
@travisjohnson70658 жыл бұрын
+Katy Thomson Haha, yeah. The only thing that bugs me is that they're actually quite different (for example example, cello is tuned in 5ths and bass is in 4ths), so someone who played cello wouldn't be able to pick up a bass and know what they're doing right away.
@cyndie267 жыл бұрын
Travis Johnson I've actually tried tuning an electric bass like a cello. I thought I would be the world's worst cellist because playing like that seemed very difficult.

This is my favorite scene in the movie. Jack Black's charisma and chemistry with these kids just eats up the moment. He feels so genuine and his passion for music is his best possible vehicle for a movie. I get goosebumps (no pun intended) when the little kid asks "You mean we're not in the band?" and Jack hesitates with "Now hold up now..." This movie was a perfect little storm.

I thought a movie called Mechanics School featuring an experience professional mechanic teaching not only high school mechanics, but also car and car parts restoration. He or she is a loyal, honest, reasonable and truthful mechanic making sure all spark plugs, pistons and piston rings replaced from any car and truck engine.
@alessiograssi4893 Жыл бұрын
I think the best thing about the character of Jack Black is that he really believes in his students and that although technically, for the first part of the movie, he "uses" them, he never stops believing in them and in their abilities, just as he would with a real band; It’s something all professors should have, no matter what they teach.
