Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg was one of the earliest B&M dive machines and I also think it's one of the best. This colossal coaster offers breathtaking visuals, an amazing first drop, and several solid supporting elements. Find out why you should want to take flight on this mythical beast in this review!

This ride is great. I think all dive machines should have splashdown elements since these rides really are about the crowd pleasing visuals. I also like how both of the Busch Gardens dive machines are well integrated into their respective parks with pathways going all around them and nice landscaping. These visual elements paired with the better restrains put these 2 dive machines above the rest.

Busch Gardens has ALWAYS been top notch in what they do. We even had a short lived one here in Houston, TX. Tampa & Williamsburg are definite destination visits. I love how B&M "one ups" itself on its creations! Completely different coaster, but had a worthy successor was Big Bad Wolf, the Verboten w/ nod to BBW.

An absolute must for coaster riders. The Griffon is one of the smoothest straight forward rides, in-which you get the thrill of speed and motion without all the headbanging and abrupt pains as with other coasters. I wonder how Fiesta Texas's Dr. Diabolical's Cliffhanger compares?

I might've caught Griffon on a bad few days. It was a bit rattly in spots, and I did get some headbanging because of it. It didn't ruin the ride at all, but it's my least favorite of the 4 North American dive coasters. That was 3 years ago, when I would usually get headbanging with B&Ms that had OTSR. I'm hoping to give this one another try this summer. That view at the top is gorgeous! I didn't even know it had that view until I took that first ride.

Griffon looks very solid. It's got 2 great drops giving a great sustained floater free fall sensation and it has the B&M over the shoulder restraints so it's airtime is stronger of those with the vests. And it has more to its layout than SheiKra and is very re-rideable. I could see myself marathoning this all day if it was the only coaster in the park.

@@lukez6203 The "gray-out" feeling is a very similar feeling to when you stand up too fast, minus the crushing positive G's.
@OklahomaCoasterFan
@OklahomaCoasterFan 3 жыл бұрын
@@lukez6203 It's mostly just getting tunnel vision, where the outside of your vision goes grey, which is a slight grey out. Sometimes, you can fully grey out, where you lose all vision but remain conscious. I used to fully grey out a lot. Now, I rarely grey out even slightly, even on i305. I'm a bit jealous that so many coaster enthusiasts are able to grey out on everything. But somehow, these giant Immelmans on dive coasters do it to me. It's not painful in the slightest, but some people will freak out when it happens, because they don't understand what's going on, and they don't realize that they're perfectly fine. I think it's the coolest thing ever. The only thing better is a black out, where you lose consciousness. That's only happened to me once, on Viper at Magic Mountain.

The only dive coasters I've ridden are Valravn and Oblivion. I preferred Valravn due to its fuller layout, but I preferred the drop of Oblivion since the B&M dive model is the only model that I prefer the OTSRs (I have no issue wit Vest Restraints on Gatekeeper or Maverick). I'd imagine Griffon to be the best dive coaster since it's the biggest one with OTSRs.

James River, not the Bay. That's on the far side of Hampton Roads. The Immelmans give interest to sitting different spots left to right. You're falling out on the right/inside, floating in the center and being ejected on the left side -- or I like to think of as the "left tide" due to a comparison to orbital mechanics. It's a stretch, but you are in a kind of orbit.
