With the constant breakdowns on the Kinze planter, Matt temporarily turns over wheat harvest to Andy and Carter. He talks about the difficulties farmers face in transitioning the farm over to the next generation and taking a backseat in field operations. The J&M grain buggy has to go into the shop for some fabrication to keep it running. Matt talks about a field fire from the previous night.

Carter has the perfect voice for the audio and with him developing skills like welding he is a welcome addition to an increased roll in Griggs Farms LLC!!! Now if he can catch the bug, the next generation will be assured. He's got the smarts!

Wheat harvest looks like it’s going great. My buddies farm I visited was very similar in the fact it looked like 100+ bushel wheat, but wasn’t averaging but 65-75. Good on you for letting Carter run the combine and learn to weld!

Over here in southeast Missouri with growing rice and also the amount of acres we farm we change augers in the grain carts every 2 years and we also change those head pieces and the big bolt that holds it on

I’ve heard rice is very abrasive. Everyone has always told me not to buy a combine that comes out of Arkansas

It's good management for any operation to be able to function without any missing team member. I was impressed at a McDonalds a few years back The Manager was sweeping the floor of the dining area. I took it as his employees were well trained and busy. They didn't need him and he had confidence in them doing their job. In your case if any died or was incapacitated, the show must go on. When and if that happens is the Worst time for training. I'm glad your getting things in order. That's good management.

It does my heart good to see a young man take an interest in the family's business. So important nowadays. Congrats Carter, stick to it, believe me making your way into the world isn't as easy as many guys your age think it is. Consider those poor dudes who dedicated their lives for years on end to making "Nothing is faster than a Deere." Darn neared cried when I saw that news story. Have a JD hat I got for last Christmas, am now looking for a Case IH.

Just curious, how did you get that pivoting spout on 7120? Is it a factory option-retrofitted?? Never seen that till I started watching your channel.
@griggsfarmsllc
@griggsfarmsllc 4 күн бұрын
It’s not factory. I had to retrofit the kit to fit my smaller diameter auger. I found an electric actuator online that would do the job and then wired in a 3 position momentary switch on the dash

When I walked away from the family farm was they wanted my money and hard work but not my opinion or to let me grow and plenty of other things that happened watching it fail is bittersweet in ways cause I'm sorry would fix alot and I could save it but thats not gonna happen so I'll just have to start buying when they start selling

I found your perspective on generational succession inspiring, however it remains unclear how we do that at scale. The average age of a farmer in the U.S. is close to 60 years old, and for every one farmer there are now 150 dependent American souls. We are losing ~2000 acres of farmland per day and based on current acreage prices, acquiring land is unattainable for most aspiring farmers (save for those fortunate enough to be bequeathed with the enterprise). In terms of policy there appears to be something fundamentally wrong, and I believe we are putting the country at risk by mortgaging the future to speculators and stock traders. How do we make farming an appealing option for the next generation?

I have been working on that with a few resources!!! Hoping to create a network for these young farmers who are willing and wanting to farm. But maybe not with their family. Its a work in Progress I am working on. 😃
