The interiors of the Ahwahnee Hotel, which is located in Yosemite National Park was used as detailed inspiration for Stanley Kubrick's horror film...The Shining (1980). Designers at Elstree Studios incorporated the hotel's lobby, elevators and Great Lounge into sets for the Overlook Hotel.

This movie had the most impeccable cast...even little Danny. Shelley should get more credit for her performance than she does.

The Shining is great, but Kubrick should have kept the ending in the book, where Jack burned down the hotel at the end....with him inside it. Fun fact....King mentioned the Overlook in another of his books...Misery. Annie is telling Paul (inadvertently) that she killed a hitchhiker she picked up that annoyed her. The hitchhiker, Annie said, had an assignment to go visit and photograph the ruins of a hotel that had burned down 10 years ago. She said, "it was a famous old hotel called the Overlook. The caretaker burned it down."

Man I envy the adventures that Michael and Jessica go on. The Shining was a awesome movie and Michaels interview with shelley was devine. The beginning shot of the tunnel remind me of the opening song in rocky horror of theres a light on. Terriffic Birthday present for Michael. That shot of the other tunnel looked like it was from back to the future or who frammed roger rabbit. Was it? Another video knocked out of the park. Happy Halloween 🎃

I find the details in Kubrick's OH being different than real life truly gives the sense that something isn't right when seeing the actual location. With the mirrored locations, different floor designs etcetera. Very similar to the actual hotel but different. So diehards who visit can sense it. Not that that was Kubrick's intention but it truly feels like it.

Stanley Kubrick was an absolute stickler for attention to detail. It's amazing how he mimicked and recreated the interior of this hotel in the movie The Shining. The movie is in my personal top ten best of all time to date.

One of the most iconic atmospheric movies I've ever seen. The cast made the film absolutely perfect but equally the settings and and the melancholy feel of the hotel, it actually felt like a depressing place where you could fully understand why men went berserk there penned in during a winter of thick unrelenting snow.

I like how you find the way into places, people, events, so calm and respectuf. The narrator tone/cadence reminds me actually of Heather's in The Blair Witch Project, when they shot in Burkittsville, at the very beginning. Beautiful channel.
