Also the finishing before the texturing will mean that the gold is that much more clean and not discolored by the stain. The black/purple stain really made the wood pop. That was a really good idea.

Run the top under a hot tap and the shellac will give in. Beautiful piece you’ve created.

Nice textural element. I would try staining the indents darker and making the raised parts lighter. The highlights would more naturally come to foreground with the body of the vase. Fun to watch!

What a lovely piece, Mike. Well worth the time and trouble. My chuck rattled and I discovered it was because the bolts were loose 🤔 Did I tell you that hard working arable farmers are outstanding in their field 🌞

Brilliant catch on only localized sanding next time. The cell walls are more of a triangle cross section. I'm going to remember that!

This one, even for an experiment, is I think, extraordinary. In some ways the end result of the stain + shine + gold inset + use of the cut/buffing heads is to me very reminiscent of that 70's 'faux antique' 'distressed finish' that was all the rage for giving a new life to "semi" old furniture. A very sound step outside the norm of relief finishes on turned items. I do very much like it.👌👍👍👍

Cherry always turns out nice, and plenty of it about, I mist the guys the other day in the park cut a tree down I’d been looking at all of my life, hopefully I don’t miss them when they chop the laburnum down 😊, great video

Weirdly, when you started using the roughing gouge, I could smell the cherry wood! I have turned a couple of vases out of cherry myself and obviously my brain could remember the aroma. 😊

Mike just a quick tip, When using the swan neck make sure the tool rest is on the flat bar it stops it from trying to twist. The Vase turned out really good, Keep up the Fantastic video's

I liked the contrast between the gold and the black before you sanded it back, which also brought out the grain of the wood. It's a great idea, but the patterns gets lost when the value (light to dark) is so similar.

I was pleased to see you demonstrating using a rubber mallet to drive in the drive spur. I see too many just using their tail stock to press the wood into it. Safety first.

My folks cut down a Bradford Pear Tree. The wood is very nice orange colors. I saw several pieces that had knots, crotches, and limbs. It will be scooped up in the next day or two by the county and deposited in a land fill.

Interesting concept, Mike. In my totally addled mind, I would opt for a bit more contrast between the carved area and the resat of the vase. When I say 'a bit more' what I am actually thinking is startling contrast 😯

The dye really woke up the grain in that cherry. I’ve not done that method yet of grinding in a pattern but I really think you have done it justice. It gets my gears turning on some of my own projects. Excellent as usual brother.

What a cool experiment and it turned out pretty cool! I like the gold "foil" for the texture but if you try this again, the gold would really pop if the wood was really dark (i.e.: walnut or stained/dyed really dark). Another really interesting video. Thank you so much, Mike!

Another new idea? Your brain must be on the go full time - do you not need sleep? I am amazed at your ability to keep trying new things to do; very creative. I like the mix of colours, especially as the grain still shows through. I finished a simple bowl myself today with the shine juice you taught me to make; thanks again, Sir! PS I hope your cold clears soon!

Thanks David, I love to try new things and I do a lot of research in many different areas to see what ideas come up, the main problem I have is getting the time to do them all 😄

Not at all upset by the separation of the ground out pattern, I think it4 is a very good result. The piece of cherry is delightful & the finish is superb. I would not be too harsh on yourself for the colouring, I think it does a great job with the gold. Get well & keep 'turning' out the good things that we enjoy together with your great commentary. Great experiment! I really like the look of the "cells". Maybe more purple than black in the mix if you go that way next time. Thumbs up!

I finally got some cherry it’s still green I’ve turned some of it Having to let it dry you did something I been thinking about so gonna try it you did a great job I love it thanks
