The time that we share with Cy is always a learning time, just like with you Scott. “Keeping the Old Man out” is a great way to put it. Some people say that I just refuse to grow up, I say I refuse to participate. I have a dozen years on you Scott, and I am active because of attitude. Keep up the good attitude, too!

This is the craziest thing about KZfaq. We get to watch an insanely experienced, master-of-all cowboy teach us things that you just can’t learn without 80 years of life experience. Cy is by far my favorite part of this channel. He’s lived the perfect life for any man’s man. He quit a great paying job to work as a cowboy for less than pennies per hour and that was okay. Sometimes it’s really not about the money. I’d kill to see the things he saw in those days. We all just want to be good men.

Cy reminds me of my grandpa. My grandpa was a union electrician and a master tinker! That man could fix and build anything and everything. He stayed extremely active till about a year before he had passed at the early age of 93. He was always out and about doing something. June 17 will be two years since he passed.

A national treasure this man. You look at old photos of the men working on and rebuilding steam locomotives 80 to 100 years ago, you'll notice that the youngest man may be in his fifties doing the light work. It was men in their 70's and 80's doing the heavy chores or so it seems. My buddy Joe Walter could be found in his shop pulling an engine, rebuilding a transmission until his death at 83 this year. Never complained, strong as a ox and quick with a joke. Who are these men?!?! God bless them❤

I just had the opportunity to get a private tour of a multimillion $ estate with dozents of stables and a winery and lots of land. In he end I asked myself would I want to live there? My answer was NO. You spend a fortune each month just for the upkeep and there was no cosy place to call home. Representative yes, if that is what you need. This experience contrasts extremely with this video of a cluttered shop but I do not have to even ask myself where I would rather spend my time! Together with Cy picking his brain for the wealth of memories and knowledge I would feel alive and at home in his shop any time over the glamour and glitter! This is the real live and thank you for every time you two let us in on that!

A point with remembering when using variable speed drivers, especially if they are a retro fit, is that the cooling fan on the motor is generally designed to run at synchronous speed and won't shift enough cooling air for the motor when run at the lower speeds. It's a good idea to fit a fixed speed electric fan to the motor.

When he was talking about the saw dust and sparks from metal being a fire hazard it reminded me of an instance when a gentleman who worked at a toilet paper plant said that they have to take extreme, special precautions to avoid ignition sources. As the TP is being processed/manufactured it creates a dust that’s nearly invisible due to how fine it is and is extremely volatile. Things you might not think of.

I was building a cedar panel fence on this property the other day, and at the back of the house, another crew was doing foundation repair work. They had some big rocks and lots of dirt to move around, and had hired a excavator. The truck pulls up, and out comes a man, who I thought couldn’t have been younger than 80. He climbed up on the back of the trailer, lifted the big chains and hooks off the tie down points, and drove the thing down a steep, narrow hill. He worked all of the next 3 days, at a young man’s pace. Turns out he was 95, and that it was his last job.

Another really nice video, I also make some knives and have had that burning the handle problem..now I need another machine that's veriable speed. I have those scalped belts also, but have been afraid to really use them much, this gave me more of a application on how they can be used .thanks for that. The smoldering problem he mentioned, I found that out early on, filled the shop with smoke ... 😂 I now clean that area off between material so it won't happen again. Thank you for taking the time to pass on the old ways, their are not to many of us left that do them and I surely don't want to be on film...let's just say that my grammar would be offensive..🤣🤠

You can learn so much from someone like Cy if only you slow down and listen. People today are too busy thinking about what they are going to say that they forget to listen. Keeping the "Old man out" is getting tougher each year. At 74 I still work at least one day a week building houses with Habitat for Humanity. It's getting harder to walk the rafters and trusses and I'm not so steady 30 ft up on a ladder anymore.
