Today I hit the streets of an awesome Latino neighborhood right here in NYC and went to work practicing my Spanish in public, amusing the locals (most of whom are native speakers) with my Spanish, which is fluent but definitely not perfect! I made some funny mistakes, but I also had a great time chatting with people from Mexico and Colombia and other Spanish-speaking countries, and of course enjoying the amazing Latino food of Jackson Heights, Queens! I had a great time making this video and I hope you enjoy it!!!
Remember to check out baselang.com/xiaomanyc to get $10 off unlimited Spanish tutoring! Thanks to them for the sponsorship but it honestly is the best way to learn Spanish online and it is how I personally learned Spanish, I think it’s an incredible program!

Learning Spanish through Stories?
The course I used initially to give me a good foundation in Spanish was called “Spanish Uncovered” by the polyglot Olly Richards, which is a way to learn Spanish naturally through stories. I really enjoyed it, and it seems to be an excellent way to get a good foundation in a new language. bit.ly/3pPB0we

Hey Xiao...so. Spanish is a "gringo" language. Spanish comes from Spain. Spaniards are Caucasian. I love your videos but sometimes you do come off as an ignorant American in other ways. This being one of them. Also your videos titled "oblivious white guy" is odd, as if only white guys are oblivious. I think you can go about it without disparaging or getting other aspects of culture wrong.

@@averagegiuseppe5640 Does anyone who speaks a second language honestly speak that second language perfectly? Very few. Get over yourself. It's always the half-breeds that make the biggest deal about it. As if you have something to prove. Full blooded Chinese people fully respect this guy. So seriously get over yourself. By the way, coming from a Spaniard I bet you don't speak Spanish perfectly as a Dominican either. Probably don't speak Chinese perfectly either lmfao 😂

Many are born in the US and raised visiting family in Mexico/respective country of origin throughout their lives, therefore still apart of the culture. They’re not viewed as gringos and many speak fluent Spanish. There are many examples including professional boxer Andy Ruiz (first Mexican Heavyweight Champ), Mikey Garcia, etc. who were born in the US. This gets brought up a lot by non-Hispanic Americans (which I’m assuming you are, I could be wrong) it always seems like they’re trying to label who belongs where and what labels to put on others, funny.

Fam, I intend no offense, but saying you're white has no relation with you knowing how to speak Spanish or not. If you go to a Spanish-speaking country and you say "oh sorry, I'm white so I haven't mastered Spanish yet" or smh like that, well that would sound terribly ignorant, not offensive imo, just plain ignorant. I'm white and I speak Spanish, my entire family comes from Italy, German-Switzerland and Spain. Never in my life have I been confused with another nationality because I'm white. I'm from Argentina and most of us here are white so that could help, but I'm sure that if I go to Mexico, Colombia or Bolivia the exact same thing would happen. Btw good luck learning Spanish! It's a quite complex language but it also feels rewarding once you can actually speak it properly.

Just don't assume that someone speaks a certain language because of the way they look. I'm a Hispanic American and I prefer to communicate in English first, especially if the person isn't Hispanic. If they only speak Spanish then that's a different story. That's like going up to a Japanese person and speaking Chinese to them. You AMAZE me dude! The way you pick up languages is beyond belief. i do delivery work and 90% of my customers are Hispanic so I am in my 2nd year of Spanish and I have learned that just a LITTLE bit of graciousness goes a hell of a long way. I am no way near as good as you but my customers love me for the fact that i am learning THEIR language!

La verdad es que como hispanoparlante me ofende just a little bit que este gringo le dedique una década al estudio y la práctica del chino, y en dos meses ya crea que puede fardar en el mercado chapurreando esa cosa que maneja, el wowñol.
