As I'm watching this I know that I have a pretty good grip and wrist control on my kali sticks training even just on my dominant hand (right); and I've realized that I still have a long, long way to go to be skilled or proficient enough in using kali sticks in an actual fight against a trained kali stick martial arts practitioner. But I'm pretty confident that I can use it well for self-defense purposes and scenarios against untrained thugs

Hey Paul, could you tell me how to use the R-shaped gripper? I have been referring several videos but I doubt their credibility. You are a trained professional so you know best. What is the correct way to use an R-shaped adjustable hand gripper??

Thanks for the different ways to improve flexibility with the wrists, and strengthen. I love the grip and catch technique. I need to get a spear though. But am using my rattan for now. 👍🏻

Very nice coaching cues and drills! As far as grip strength and grip endurance, I train with Maces and Heavy Clubs. They are so sick for Kali! I also spend some of my bastón training time with 2 pound metal batons. Builds grip and rotator cuff endurance.

Hello Paul and thank you for your training videos. A question I have is, what if you suffer from sweaty palms, like me, and your sticks are coated in a slippery substance, like mine, is there a way to improve my grip with these conditions, or is it best to get new sticks?

Paul, what are your thoughts on occasional use of weighted sticks or light indian clubs for these motions?

@@kalicenter personally, I do a variation of the PTK dirty dozen with heavier sticks at lower speed, both for power generation and to reinforce form. I also warm up with 1 pound indian clubs for flexibility, range of motion, and grip strength.

@@drl001 for those things yes I would agree they help. 👍🏻

How do I prevent wounds from the stick? The skin near my pointer finger where the palm meets always gets wounded, or specifically the skin gets ripped out. How do I prevent this from continously happening? Everytime I practice I always get wounds

what diameter do you use for your rattan stick? I have small hands for an adult, so was wondering if I should choose the3/4th inch instead of 1

Only issue is, it feels like you are explaining this like i know it already? For example, my wrists cant do that roll maneuver, more just bounces up and down, but you explain to keep practicing for a few weeks, even a month, and it should loosen up. But then you move on from it. So how important is that move? Are there things i should do to condition my body, to get it ready to do Eskrima? Im wanting to try and get into weight loss, and this seems like something fun that does not feel alot like exercising XD. If so, maybe could you suggest some videos of your that would be good for conditioning? Thanks and keep up the great work my friend :).

I just got my Kali Center Sticks and case. Taken them out each three days since not today though. I did a lot of other stuff with J handle Cane and knife's and a tomahawk, but started trying to get a feel and understanding of the Kali stick's. This video is great for me really because these are much different than Cane or Staff. More like dual welding short swords or my knife's which I also got machete's. The grip is far less though. I always practice dual welding everything with my J handle Cane though. Have done very little with a blade in each hand. Also, everything I got is heavy, with single strike possible lethality. So the Rattan Kali Sticks are a new world to me really, and I got very little wrist movement all kinds of damage throughout my hands arms shoulders head neck back legs and feet, etc. The Cane is what I focus on though, and would likely fight it alone if attacked and never attempt to even draw another weapon. Though I practice doing so while fighting the Cane. See the knifes and tomahawks are multi tools I can carve and make stuff with, especially in a wilderness off grid survival, as I use them and my cane for foraging high and low food and materials I have knowledge of. So I can already feel my speed has shot up because the other night while cleaning I kept catching falling items without even looking at them. Then I'd stare stupidly at it in my hand. My cane is heavy, and I use whole body techniques to direct it quickly and powerfully. So different. I can really feel my individual arm muscles with these, though I'm not able to use them quickly or powerfully yet, nor very smooth perhaps either. I can feel how this can further help my wrists. It's really great for the whole body cause you're doing footwork also of course. Only problem I got is the shoulder strap on the bag is tight across my chest and I cannot avoid hitting either ends of my sticks while spinning my cane, and wearing them on my back. I will solve that. Also gotta have a way to secure my cane onto me while running through forest using Kali stick's. I can still run for short distances even in rough terrain. Trying to hold onto that. So I gotta lose weight. I think these are a phenomenal way to exercise and gain ability to dual weld as well. Also these must be the easiest safest weapons to spar. Of course it translates into hardwood sticks directly with same metaphysical edge.
