I have been bowling finger tippped without grips for about 15 or 16 years and I have never gone back. This has been the best change in my game. My Average has increased dramatically since changing! I do get compliments all the time on how smooth my ball looks when I release it as well. I definitely suggest trying no grips.

Contemplating changing to gripless due to the fact that my fingers swell up and down and constantly going in to get them checked out is tiring.

I was tired of spending extra money changing out grips in my arsenal every six months as over time grips wear down changing the feel and span. So out of curiosity I switched to no grip fingertip 12 years ago and never looked back. This allows me to put more finesse in my release in addition to a consistent feel. I have the same rev rate and hook as I did with grips and happy with my decision.

Wow this is great! If I’m using 5.5 and 3.5 finger inserts what size should the holes be when not using the inserts? Thanks!

You’d have to measure your fingers, to get an exact fit as the grips have some forgiveness

Haha I literally just got done punching a ball up without grips for the reason that I knew I was going to lose rev rate without grips and that's very true for the average bowler. I will adjust pitch in the thumb to grab onto a ball with finger inserts and still come out clean vs drilling a ball with conventional drilled fingertip. But to each their own. I've drilled hundreds of balls up for myself over the years that's what I've found works. I've drilled them all sorts of different ways

So, I’m going to get my first finger tip ball soon and grips cost a lot of extra money. Is it important that I get grips or can I go grip less and use tape? I will say I’m a pretty amateur bowler but I don’t think I’ll suffer too much from discomfort. Love the vids by the way. Keep it up!

We always recommend grips, especially so for bowlers who are new to a fingertip grip. Much less wear and tear on your fingers and hand, and it’s much more comfortable

How about no thumb grip but finger grips?

I peeled the skin off my fingers with cut/trimmed rubber inserts. I couldn't imagine going to a hard sharp edge, even with finger tape. Not to mention the problem of having flat fingers and not round fingers. But good info nonetheless.

A very large difference. Fingertip drilling allows for you to exit your thumb and fingers at different times. What I mean by this is that your thumb is able to exit the ball on the release first while your fingers stay a bit longer so you can get that nice rotation required for a good curve down lane. Conventional grip (full finger) is good for the newest bowlers or those who only bowl here and there. While you can curve the ball with conventional grip it’s a lot harder because your thumb and fingers will want to exit the ball at the same time.
