The Großglockner was the second mountain of our Seven European Summits 2016 Project. We climbed the mountain via the Normal Route from Kals/Osttirol on 25th/26th June 2016, again through all four seasons. :-)
The Großglockner, also called the "misty mountain", is with 3798m the highest mountain in Austria. Located on the boarder of Eastern Tyrol and Kärnten, we chose the ascent from Kals/Eastern Tyrol via Luckner- and Stüdl Hut and spent one night at the Erzherzog-Johann-Hut ("Adlersruhe"), before we summited in the morning of the 26th June 2016. Guided by the local Christian Riepler from Kalser mountain guides, we had an awesome weekend in the nationalpark Hohe Tauern.
This route has it all!
From great food, different accomodations and the friendliest, warm-hearted people we ever met, this is the way to climb Großglockner.
We had four seasons again and a complete White-Out at the summit, so we definitely have to come back to see the view from the top - and we will!
The second of the Seven European Summits was conquered - Gran Paradiso is next! :-)
