We are car camping/overlanding in our ROOF TOP TENT through Central America. We drove all the way from Canada to Nicaragua with our 2 bulldogs Tigger & Penelope to our new home in San Juan del Sur Nicaragua. We loved it so much that we are back on the road!!! For this reason we rarely buy anything imported. It is fun to try all the local brands of things we have back home and of course just trying new kinds of food.

We are enjoying Costa Rica, but wow food is expensive here!

I wonder if the overall monthly cost is lower though without the high heating & taxes in Canada. Prices here have definitely increased along with anything else you have to pay for. We were paying $300. month for Groceries from Walmart & Superstore in 2022 now we are paying at least $400. (Nov. 2023)

The monthly cost of living could end up being lower without heating and tax costs (if your a Costa Rica resident or buy a house you would pay taxes but we are not certain the rates). It would really depend on whether you are renting or buying, which area you choose to live in, is electricity included (and how much A/C you use). We have found that services and labor are more affordable. The biggest factor is turely where your coming from and what the costs are there, for example the cost of living in Toronto is very different than a rural town in Canada. In Costa Rica there is a 14% tax included on the prices you see on the shelf.

Did they move from Nicaragua to Costa Rica?

We still living in Nicaragua but have been travelling and camping in Costa Rica for 3 months and then living in San Jose Costa Rica for the past few months because the Nicaragua border was closed to pets (its open now). Due to this we had to put our car in government storage for 3 months, that is why we are in San Jose. Soon we will be back to travelling and back to Nicaragua.
