This month in Kitty Talks Dogs, we have Fred the 5-month old Lakeland Terrier! He is coming to us for his first full grooming and handstripping session! We introduce the puppy to standing on the grooming table, cutting his nails, cleaning his ears and eventually the carding and handstripping process. Fred's Pedigree name is The Sentinel from Foliny Home and his owner is certified groomer and The Sentinel stripping brand creator Rony De Munter.

Hello there Go groomer, I have also seen your video's and love to see you in action, congrats. You must live in USA, here in Europe we do stripping much more but also when the customers come in for the first time we explain a lot about what happens if they don't strip the coat. We show them pictures of both ways and we really make publicity for hand stripping ... I guess together with breeders we manage to like kind of educate our customers. If I were you I would certainly never give up, start to prepare yourself gather pictures and next time you see a wirehaired puppy arrive in your shop do whatever you can to convince the owner to handstrip you might suprice yourself. keep on showing all of us the good work , keep safe and keep enjoying our profession xx

I have a 3 month old lakeland. His name is scruff. Because he's yet to be groomed so looks scruffy. His name would definitely not suit him after a visit to you!! Haha 😄 🤣 Fred looks beautiful 😍

Hi Just found your channel .that was an excellent hand strip of the Lakeland . Would love to see you do a welsh terrier or airedale. I have two Welsh terriers which I strip the jacket, head,legs I find it difficult to do the cheeks and throat,I am in a wheelchair and have problems with my hands so tend to use thinning scissors on those parts ,would like to strip there but because it has been scissored not sure if I let it grow if it would pull out now,how do you do underneath the the back legs and belly , do you pull that as well.would like to see you do that. All the best

Hi , first of all thank you for your message. Yes, i handstrip the legs, back & front legs . also the belly. i really prefer to handstrip the whole dog except the feet. If you let grow the cheeks and throat, it 's possible to handstrip. but not super about that. depending on the age of your dog and the structure of the fur on that specific places . But you can always try . If you let it grow for a couple of months n and it's long, it's easier to handstrip . Kind regards. en keep us updated :-) Kitty

Hello , nice to meet you here on our channel . Well, normally it takes around 2 to 3 hours to groom a lakie. if you want to do it properly . depending on how much time there is in between. we recommend to handstrip every 4 to 6 weeks. Thank you in advance.

Hi, which sizes of the Sentinel stripping knifes would you recommend for a Lakie?

Hello Jack, thank you for message. To groom a Lakie you need at least 2 different Sizes , The medium ( W2) en the Fine (W1) for grooming the head and shorter parts . Hello , thank you so much for your comment and question . we advice actually to start stripping as soon as possible . depending of course on the coat , if it's ready to be handstripped. but the sooner you can handstrip the coat. how better . It is said that not to hand strip terriers before 8 months old, or else their ears will wrongly stand up (and I really found so many wire fox terrier or lakeland terrier' ears were not right), so how to avoid that happen?

Hello , thank you so much for your feedback and question, I understand you completely and indeed , sometimes it's a risk to handstrip the ear, so the weight of the hair is gone, to let the ears falling down, if that would be the cas e, you can always glue the ears at a young age. Hoi Jos, dank je wel voor jowu feedback . Een video i.v.m. de trimsessie is er nog niet . Bij deze is dit genoteerd . hoedanook , is de plukt echniek wel hetzelfde bij ieder pluk ras. Maar de teckel komt er zeker aan . Groetjes

I’ve read that after Lakelands have been neutered or spayed that you should not hand strip. Is that true?

not true, sometimes the texture changes very slightly but not enough so that you can't hand strip as normal. If you're really worried ask your vet x

Hello Kendra, from our experience you have 50% the change that the coat stays as before. Depending on the age your dog is neutered and the hardness of the coat before his . It's very depending from dog to dog and coat to coat. Let is know if we can help you further. Thank you
