Thank you so much for this. I have handstripped a number of border terriers but never an Irish. First one due oin this week. This has reassured me exactly what to do for a fabulous finish. As a new groomer these videos are extremely useful.

You Show and explane ist very good. Please never take this vidio away . I used this vidio as a guidense befor the excebission and I ve got a Good compliment for grooming my dog by my own.

Thank you so much for this! Due to Covid restrictions, our groomer had to close, and our Irish is so overdue with his coat! It started itching him so baldy! I tried hand striping, watching your guide first, and I think it turned out decent enough until our groomer can reopen 🙂 at least my dog is not so itchy anymore!

Best breed ever. My girl does agility and already has her IPnA. She took third in her last agility competition. I've gotten one gorgeous litter out of her.

Have my third Irish Terrier in a row and she is now 1 year old. love the breed but of course lots of work to get their coat perfect. I do the grooming myself but use a pro about 3 times a year to make it perfect. I found that if you put a finger cot on your thumb you can grab the hair and pinch against the stripping knife a bit easier. Some also use ear powder to get more grip. By using the finger cots and/or ear powder you put less stress on your hand to help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.

I just watched another lady do this & it was calm & cool. That dog never cried once. She gave mini breaks & treats. She didn't hold it's mouth closed because that how they cool off. I can clearly see this poor pooch is at the end of her rope.😢

Watched the whole video without stopping or taking a break expecting an amazing result; I was a bit disappointed at the end. The groomer is professional, kind to the dog and thorough with her work but the beard and the face came out a little sloppy. The dog is perfection but I'd give this job a 7.5 out of 10. Thank you for the video.

Hi, can you advise on an Irish terrier coat? When we got him his coat was matted with mud so we had to cut all the mats down with just a scissors (which was his whole body). I couldn't really tell what his coat was like before it was cut because of the muck. Now that it's growing back it seems very thin and also very fluffy like an undercoat, not wiry like I thought it would be. Do you think it will repair over time to be wiry and thicker?

Hi, you use the same process with a “broken/curly” coat. This method/technique is the basis for any wire haired hand strip

I have an Irish puppy just under a year old and he needs to be groomed for first time. What are the disadvantages of using the clippers? Hand stripping looks like a lot of work although they really finish up nice.

it depends if your dog is spayed/neautered. If your dog is that then handstripping is hard since the hormones become different and that makes the coat too soft for handstripping. Using clippers is only really what you shoud do if you can't handstrip. It does look much less shaggy if you're using clippers if you get what I mean. It can also change the texture of the coat and once you've started clipping it can be hard to go with handstripping. Handstripping isn't a lot of work you just gotta know what you're doing. Go to a groomer and learn how to do it, it really isn't hard. I myself have an airedale and she is spayed. It has made her coat soft so I clip her. It has changed her coat a little but not all that much. Hope my comment helps :P

Every month let it blow out it's easier to hand strip unless showing purposes every 2weeks 4 to 6 hours one day if the coat is blowing out fast af lol
