I've been grooming and own cocker spaniels for over 30 years! This is THE first time I have seen the use of a stone for the stop, instead of a #10 blade. I love it and will try it o. my silver boy next month. Thank you! :)

I always use a 30 clipping in the direction the hair grows. Some show people like a 10 against the grain, but there are some vets who say this can hurt/burn hair follicles, making the melanin distribution slow, causing a fade in pigment. Since she's black, I won't risk fading her color. But both give a very clean look so you get to choose which method you would prefer. ☺️

I love long-haired breeds, so I leave the coat completely natural on my cocker spaniel. Yes, it's a whole lot of brushing - at least 40 minutes. Naturally, it takes longer to brush out when he goes to the park. Have to check thoroughly for burrs. Though his behavior is still so puppyish, he's twelve years old now, with glaucoma in an eye that needs to be removed and nerve problems in his back end. His legs get wobbly like the Scarecrow on Wizard of Oz. As he has such a profuse billowy coat, he mats very quickly and must be brushed at least once every day. However, he can no longer handle long grooming sessions - not even when I let him lie down through most of it. I don't want to take him to a professional because they never listen to how an owner instructs them to trim the coat. Seen too many silly haircuts on my friends' dogs. My dog will NEVER be shaved. Thank you for showing me I don't need to be afraid of the thinning shears. Looking forward to watching more of your videos so I can be confident in the way I trim up his coat.

What a beautiful bond the two of you have 💕 Being able to work on him at home is great, you can just go about it in small spurts and ensure he is comfortable! Thinning shears are a slow way of trimming something, but they are very forgiving and if you're not 100% happy with it, you can always trim again in a month or two. Hopefully I will be getting the videos back up and running. Had to take some major down time as I made some big changes to the business. I do see some more cockers in my future videos 😋 Just keep trimming. I can tell, you're doing great!

Finding a groomer that fits the pet parent as well as the dog needs and personality is tough. My favorite groomer just retired and I am in the process of trying to find my next one. It’s like trying to find a husband. I am on the search! But in the meantime I’m trying to do it myself. I’m doing it in short spurts and I’m watching a lot of videos. 🤪

Yes 😔, she is normally on a weekly schedule, but my good friend had a stroke and so the dogs had to go stay with family/friends that didn't understand the maintenance of show coat. I was so caught up with the friend stuck in the hospital that I forgot to check in on all the dogs involved in the process as well. By the time the thought came to me, everyone was in pretty bad shape. Everyone is back to their routines now and my friend is slowly recovering the use of her left side. 💛

Thank you! I use a custom stone made from a BBQ pumice stone. I just cut the big block down into a size I prefer and then wrap 2/3 of it in vet wrap or athletic wrap. If you're looking for a premade one, you could look for a sally stone (groomer term) or find a pumice stone in the beauty section that is comfortable for you to hold.

I've had the pleasure of grooming her since she was 3 months old and we slowly built up to a big long grooming experience. It will take time to break the habit, but small sessions of just feeding her treats (or bits dinner if you're watching her waist line) and rubbing the vibrating clipper over her helps build confidence and trust. 💕 I hope your girl comes around

😳why is it that they shouldn’t have eyelashes?
@Dognormousllc
@Dognormousllc 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! Because of the way dogs are structurally built, most of their eyelashes don't curl and will come back into their eyes, especially on big eyed breeds like the cocker spaniel. However, there are breeds like the Wheaton, the coton, and the Tibetan terrier for example, that have eyelashes designed to help up hair, so the hair that covers the eyes is lifted away. So when you put these breeds in cute pet trims, they have those eyelashes we all dream of having. Breeds that have eye problems, you want those eyelashes trimmed short, and if you really love the eye lashes, watch their length to make sure that they are not causing irritation to the eye. ❤
