Arguably the greatest segment of any ski video ever.

Back in the 90s I worked as a ski photographer and we had all of Greg Stumps videos.. The editing was and still is classic beauty and captured the music and feel of that era perfectly. The merging of snow sports and party culture and a sense of freedom to live a life based on an outdoors lifestyle in nature was such good times. We watched those Greg Stump videos till the tapes wore out.. Excited for the next powder day.. Huddled up in our crappy cold cheap flat. But we were free from the rat race and happy.

I am a huge Mike and Glenn fan...but...This is likely one of the best Ski Videos of all time in my opinion, Why you ask? Because it is mainly just about riding natural terrain.. Just riding it epically. Today it seems that the ski movies are just about how many flips and grabs and spins you can do.. and not about really riding the mountain in a fluid natural way. I think this video shows Scot Schmidt at his finest.

It documents what all the "flair" is built upon, it shows us the foundations, which is why I think it's so important. There is no showmanship without the basics covered, which is what this movie is about.

These were unridden lines in many cases. This era absolutely is the extreme skiing - new school - freeriding .
@BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists6 ай бұрын
I belive it is also true that many who can do tricks on prepared snow would last maybe three turns in breakable crust. Tricks and skiing/riding a mountain are not synonymous.

Let’s get pumped watching this movie, then hit the mountain when its fresh powder. I can remember how Scot changed the way I ski after watching him ski. The guy was my hero and still is. Inspired a whole bunch of people that’s for sure

In the early 90's my friend and I watched this hundreds of times before we we would ski when we lived in Breckenridge. Love Scott Schmitd's style.. I actually contacted Greg Stump a while back and bought the DVD. Brings back great memories.

+Greg Donohoe Hi Greg I've been trying to get the DVD of this film for years without luck. I had the original VHS and watched it till it wore out :-) Do you have Greg Stumps contact details as I would love to buy a DVD of this classic film from him.
@gregdonohoe39868 жыл бұрын
I looked but couldn't find his email so I must have erased it by accident. I just went on his site and ordered it. We emailed each other back and forth and I must say that Mr. Stump is a bit forgetful so it took me a while to get the right DVD (and it was a bit expensive). In the end he sent me his latest movie for free, which I thought was very nice.

Yes. , In the seventies as a adult teenagers all the limits were beginning to be be pushed. Hang gliding with skis , speed skiing at local hills , big air gelande , running downhills, Standard 210 for men length skis and poaching lines because nobody skied them thus closed or OB . Thank you Greg Stump/ his film legacy for documented the beginning of extreme and helping form the following culture in all sports. 5 avalanches 50 years later with 500 million of verticle still hiiting the steps , Always easier to turn with Pow or Air under the boards.

Back in the 80's and early 90's I worked on the Ski Patrol at Park City. I bartended at one of the local hotels. On some nights it would be really dead so I would watch Greg Stump videos over and over. I used to study the way he turned and I learned to incorporate it into my own skiing..especially on steeps. It was so efficient , smooth and mainly just fun! That guy was and still is my hero.

I was there. I won the pair of skis in the raffle. They gave me the K2 rep’s info and they wanted to give me some intermediate skis. As if. I talked him into the TNT’s. We just saw Seal in Seattle 2 days ago, and I can’t believe he doesn’t show some of these clips during the show. I can’t hear this and not see this in my mind.

Inspiration meets desire. That's what Groove did for me. The opening scene with Dan Donnely and of course the star Scott Schmidt is epic and totally appropriate to begin the film...Even Chet, the Heli-driver is perfect. I compliment Scott who's still an epic skier and MR Stump. LOL (sounding slightly maniacal )
