We stopped in Zell am See last night which is the perfect place to set off and ride the Grossglockner.
Today we will be riding the Grossglockner which should be on any motorcyclists bucket list. Is the Grossglockner a dangerous road, well no its wide and well maintained. The bends are easy to navigate. but watch out for the huge drops and no barriers. Some how we missed the bikers view point, bit of an epic fail after travelling that far. We were already heading down when we finally realised. Oh well it was still worth it and there was cake at the bottom. The scenery is some of the best you will see with snow still in place. We will then head over the Wurzen pass into Slovenia and arrive at Bohinjsko by the lake where we will stay for 2 nights.
Zell am See has a history dating back to Roman times, with medieval architecture and cobblestone streets. Surrounded by the Hohe Tauern National Park, it offers stunning views, and some great Alpine roads through the mountains.
The Grossglockner is Austria's highest peak, standing at 3,798 meters tall in the Hohe Tauern range. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road opened in 1935 and is it self a great bit of engineering, featuring 36 hairpin bends along its 30 miles (48-kilometers) stretch. It reaches an altitude of 2,504 meters (8,215 feet) at the Hochtor Pass, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers, and valleys.
