It's called clickbait and it's what all too many people do on KZfaq. Its a nice clip though. I just wish they provided more information, like what year and who was the guy in the middle? I'm aware of firing line but I wasn't around then to be watching - it does anyone know when this was and if there's an archive of it somewhere?

Because when shows like this are tried nowadays, _nobody watches them._ Good talk shows died due to bad ratings. Talking more about the USA's habit of killing African, Latin-American, and Asian people as a means of furthering corporate gains. All you had to do was get elected democratically and stand up to US imperialist weight-pushing and before you knew it, a coup had been CIA-financed and a brutal criminal installed as your replacement while you rot in a shallow grave. This is the fate of most of south america, where giving control to venal crooks has given us a landscape soaking in blood and literally ablaze. So America is a land driven by greed and violence. Although you're German, so little different. Capitalism breeds monsters, and sows the seeds of society's destruction

Roosevelt was engaged in leading the free world against the Germans and the Empire of Japan, and knew he was the best person to lead that fight to the detriment of his health. He was sending hundreds of thousands of Americans to fight to the death, and he believed that he too needed to be prepared to also make the final sacrifice for the sake of his country. Contrast that with Cadet Bone Spurs, who didn't want to visit the graves of fallen American troops because he didn't want to get that squirrel pelt on his head wet.

This display of just good manners and good conversation is very good entertainment just by itself.

Sean Cottrell - Yeah, Chomsky was such a jerk, confusing the issue with the facts the way he did. Up until then I admired Buckley. But the Vietnam issues were not debated - and that's what I was watching for. But Buckley kept interrupting Chomsky, and saying "Oh, you don't know what you're talking about." This wasn't a great debater, this was rude bullshit. It happened with Gore Vidal, too, during the Republican Convention. Vidal, who was - unfortunately for Buckley - much smarter and better read, got away with calling Buckley a "crypto-fascist"- on network TV. An epic burn, Buckley was so angry he sued Vidal, and lost - and never paid up. I didn't follow Buckley after that. His son is a fine writer as well.

Someone asked, "Who was that guy behind the podium?" The beginning of this episode of "Firing Line" is on KZfaq (v=ZWcOuUg77BE). In it, the man says, "My name is C. Dickerman Williams, and I shall act as chairman of this discussion." Wikipedia says this about him: "Charles Dickerman Williams (1900 - August 12, 1998) was an American lawyer who was known as a freedom of speech advocate."

The reason for insurance co. to get away with what they get away with is because the congress will not back up the CONSERVATIVE idea to allow insurance companies to move across state lines, thus making the whole insurance game competitive, so that the customer always comes first.

Groucho has been and remains the King of WIT to our present day! his intelligence being so great is also humble-with a degree of irrepressible sarcasm and satire. still he seemed a comic, and "comic: is hardly the only word by which to describe this inimitable man. just that he quoted "i wouldn't want to belong to any club which had ME as a member" illustrates that the world is NOT funny! to me, the world is perfect! even if it includes our animals, earthquakes, tsunamis, mud slides, avalanches, monsoons, eruption of volcano-for those are natural events which occur through our indiferent (mother Nature. to me, is human kind (yes, i know i am part of such imperfect creatures who seem to be into the "me-me-me" and this ridiculous term:"SELFIE, is it? We are not funny at all! we are the very scourge upon the earth. we destroy, poison anything which once was pure-and as a specie can-or-will not live in peace together. and so, when Grouch says, that he is a sad man, well, i believe that the horrors which are ours are so great and persistent - THAT WHAT ELSE COULD HE POSSIBLY BE??? I SECOND HIS MOTION!

Groucho says here that the main reason he did not vote for FDR in 1944 was because he (FDR) was traveling around the world too much, meeting allies and military men despite being "deathly i'll". This is most likely not true because the public was not made aware of FDR's condition until January 1945.

Groucho said that he didn't vote for him because no man should have more than two terms and many of them no more than one. He then goes on to say that he was meeting with a couple of giants when very ill (referring to Churchill and Stalin) and that that was unforgivable and that he should have resigned. He's not saying that he voted against him because he knew he was too ill to handle negotiations, he's saying that FDR's condition validated his argument. It's really not that hard to follow a conversation if you aren't trying to show how smart you are

+Leftie Except Johnson was not obviously ill in 1968, and in spite of fairly heavy drinking, he lived through the whole of what would have been his second term had he run & won, although he did die two days after that, from a heart attack.
