We had a big storm roll through Florida last night. Normally I would not be too worried but since we have our battery backed solar power system shut down during this upgrade We are currently depending on the grid for power. Once you get used to having that backup solar power, being just on the grid feels so week. Even with multiple backup generators, We could never go back to being dependent on the grid. Battery backed solar power is a "must have".

It definitely helps to have all the tools. The plasma torch, tractor, pallet forks, levels, laser levels, wheel barrows, work shop, etc. all make it a much smoother process. Thanks!

I would really love to finish that up in February but I have a long to do list ahead of it. I am especially looking forward to the cupula. Your going to LOVE it!

OMG this is so awesome! This new array looks massive. How many PV watts going on it? I may have missed you saying it. Are you going to fill those posts with cement? I did that with mine to prevent rainwater from getting in. Even though they are galvanized steel. Zero issues...solid to this day! Can't wait to see the next video!

Hello Chris, I am moving my panels from the roof to this ground mount (8,200 Watts, the other panel is 4400 Watts). I am not filling the post but they are capped. I actually just finished the project today and it is really cranking out the power! :) BTW: Do you think we will ever stop adding more power or is some kind of solar addiction? :)

Awesome! With 12,600w in PV, I think your all set! Yeh, capping is alright. I filled mine for strength & keeping the water and critters out. I am about 2-3,000w short. In my tiny suburbia backyard I'm running 9,450w in bifacial PV...with very little room for more PV. So, I am buying a new car instead...hahaaa

@@ChrisDIYerOklahoma I don't know buddy, you have not tapped that roof yet, could get another few thousand Watts up there! lol :)

Is there a reason you put the posts 12 feet apart? And why did you go with schedule 40 pipe? Is that better engineered for the weight? Thanks, its looking good.

Yes. I am glad you brought this up. I see a lot of ground mounts on YT that are seriously under engineered. I used a design tool through IronRidge called "Design Assistant". www.ironridge.com/design-tools/ This online tool does all the wind loading calculations and outputs a design that will stand up to the parameters you enter. In my case I designed for wind speeds of 120mph. For my panel, it takes 18,000lbs of concrete to hold this array down. Compare that to what you see folks building without doing the wind loading calculations. Also, I did a more detailed series on my other ground mount array that covers this and more: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJ1zoqZ6kpatn40.htmlsi=Oo01p4I6Go6ocsm8 Thanks!
