"The term permafrost makes it sound like it's not going anywhere" - but as this enlightening talk reveals, "it is." With alarming new data and practical encouragement, permafrost geophysicist Taylor Sullivan explains how frozen ground in the Arctic influences temperatures where you live - and how the way you live influences Arctic temperatures. Taylor observes patterns of freeze and thaw within ecosystems characterized by permafrost-ground that has been frozen for more than two consecutive years. As a research geophysicist, he employs electromagnetic techniques to constrain the boundary conditions for local and global-scale models of permafrost extent and future permafrost projections.
While earning his doctorate from the University of Wyoming, Taylor relocated to a cabin without running water in the boreal forest of the Alaskan interior. Before this, he discovered his drive to expand the envelope of human understanding of earth processes while serving as an interpretive ranger in the Rocky Mountain region of America’s National Parks. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Everyone needs to see this. Dealing with Arctic permafrost and methane release, both polar and agricultural + CO2 emissions are why we have a Code Red warning by IPCC International Panel on Climate Change to address the issue. The scientist is humorous and makes memorable scaling analogies such as ‘8 Mount Everests worth of Carbon’ and challenges us to make smart decisions; we’re all in this together.

Permafrost is all about the earth's 23.5 deg tilt, and the severe weather at both poles. Global Ice bergs are also melting with the warmer weather. Why? The green planet, lost at least 80 % of elements for growth, including water vapor of the atmosphere. So, we now have an arid, and cold planet. What did the green planet have, 1. No tilt 2. No seasons 3. No Tidal events 4. No Ice, only maximum fresh water, 5. Water vapor in the atmosphere, of 4% worldwide. 6. Forests at both Poles 7. Limited Sun's rays, because of the max water vapor in the atmosphere 8. A constant global around 70 deg's. Because of no tilt of the earth, the single tectonic plate, should return. This would mean that the cracked tectonic plates, would return to the sea. Salt water in 97.5% fresh water, is called the sea, because of the agitation by way of the tidal forces. With the atmosphere being fully charged at 4% fresh water, the rain would be replaced by overnight dew, every night. The way God created the earth, before the Fall.

Taylor, you did a great job. There’s so much for us all to do and your analogies were spot on. Education, personal decision making AND voting are all key for us in going forward. Walk softly on our fragile planet. She’s all we have.

I guess more are concerned about balloons mistaken for Alien Ships than what is actually happening here on Earth. Thank you for uploading and sharing.

Dude this has been out for ten months and there's only 2k views and only ten comments?!?! This is important, people!!! Methane is like 10× the greenhouse gas that CO2 is!
