Awesome reaction! You were right about needing something more lighthearted to watch after those first three heavy dramas. It was a nice change of pace. If I had to repeat the same day I'd definitely have fun with it and use it for personal development & random acts of kindness just like Phil (eventually) did. I completely agree with you that this movie is a great wake up call to be a kinder human being. It's a great metaphor for real life. We can start to feel like we're stuck in a rut sometimes. But if we practice mindfulness and gratitude, we can see every day from a new perspective.😊 Ps. I'm gonna keep spamming u to react to the 1985 film, "Mask" starring Cher. But I promise I'll try not to be too annoying about it. lol

My favorite fact about this movie is that Harold Ramis, the director (also cameod as the doctor), knew Bill Murray well enough to know he gets burned out as production goes on, so it was actually filmed in reverse, with his happiest scenes first, and his more douchey scenes from the first part of the movie we filmed last.

They also had a falling out over this movie but reconciled just before Ramis' death. One of my favorite quotes from Ramis about Murray was "and irritated Bill Murray is funnier ..." this was said after they confessed to making Murray's Proton Pack something like 30lbs heavier than the others (Ramis co-wrote Ghost Busters and Animal House among others).

In the most honest but least dramatic way, this movie saved my life. I've suffered with depression since I was 15 and experienced many times where I've wanted to end my life because it felt like there was absolutely no point in living. I couldn't get any enjoyment from my hobbies anymore and even getting out of bed was a chore. But watching this film over a year ago for the first time ended up completely changing the way I saw my life. What Bill Murray's character did to end up breaking the repetitive cycle, I ended up applying to my own life. I learned piano, learned new languages, made short films, wrote poetry, went to therapy, started helping people and being as productive as possible. Because today will only come once. And there's only so much life that you can get out of one day. But now, I literally live every day to the fullest instead of living it like a Groundhog Day

Years phill spent in Groundhog day: Well a film blog has worked it out for you: 33 years and 350 days. These included the 38 “Days shown on screen”, the 414 “Days mentioned” (including the “six months. Four to five hours a day” spent throwing playing cards into a hat), and the colossal 11,931 “Days spent learning”. Based off the theory that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at anything, this third stage covered the time needed for Phil to learn French poetry, ice sculpting and the piano.

There's a TV show with the same idea, living the same day over and over. Day Break, with Taye Diggs (from Way Of The Gun), Adam Baldwin (Jayne from Firefly, and Animal Mother from Full Metal Jacket), and Jonathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad). I think they only made one season, like ten episodes or so. But it is so great! Taye is repeating the same day, and there is so much going on, and there are so many people he needs to help.

I second this; for personal reasons it also has very deep meaning to me. Robin Williams; along with Dead Poets Society, is at his best, and the supporting cast, which strictly speaking Robin Williams is amongst, is incredible. kerk

This movie is intended as a metaphor for life. How many years did Phil spend re-living the same day before he figured out what life is really about? How many years do you or I spend before WE figure out what life is all about? Each of us has to learn to be unselfish, try new things, learn new skills, be kinder, help people, and love people for their good instead of ours. Just like Phil. The sooner we do that, the sooner we get out of our monotonous existence.

Another Fun Fact...which you might have learned by now, the gentleman in the top hat and the red vest, reading the official Scrolls when they take out the Groundhog...his name is BUSTER...is played by Bill's brother Brian. He's in most of Bill's movies which is pretty cool. Also, Harold Ramis, the Dr. he went to see about his head, was the Director and producer of the movie; and, of course, plays Igon in the Ghostbuster flms.

It was such a joy to see your reaction to this classic! Have you ever heard of a movie called 'Synecdoche, New York'? I lived in Illinois where this movie was filmed. I worked on the tv show Prison Break in 2015. The Groundhog Day where they bring the groundhog out was filmed in Woodstock Illinois. When an episode of Prison Break was filmed Patricia Wettig was filming for a campaign for the show. When I get to the area I’m like it’s Groudhog Day because I knew the movie was filmed in Illinois. Also the snow storm scene was filmed in Waukegan Illinois. Bill Murray brother Brian Doyle Murray is Bill Murray’s brother. He plays Buster who pulls the Groundhog out of the box. Brian is also in Vacation and Christmas Vacation. In Vacation Brian is the actor that spits the watermelon seeds and in Christmas Vacation he is Chevy Chase/Clark Griswold boss in the movie

Love this movie. There has been a lot of guessing about how long he actually repeats this day. Some estimates put it at up to 500 years, but I doubt it. The guy that plays the doctor that does the x-rays is the late Harold Ramis, the director of the movie.
