I feel like test strips never give an accurate representation of the fragrance. I've tried a lot that smell way better on skin. Also, some of the fragrance are really harsh when you have your nose right up against the application site. They tend to smell a lot better when coming off the person in the air.
@GrowingDownUnder2 жыл бұрын
I agree test strips are deceiving, often you only smell the top notes with test strips it traps the top note because the paper they use is super absorbent but in reality you aren't wearing this paper. When you spray fragrance on skin and even often clothes that top note doesn't get trapped it fades away after a short amount of time. You may think clothes are really absorbent, some clothes are but generally test strips are still more absorbent and they hold the fragrance top notes better than clothes. That's why you can't just use any type of paper for test strips, the test strips are special paper that's more absorbent

People are hating on the reviewers like usual, but honestly I can see where they would get hints of those random notes they just don't know how to describe. Layton, the vicks smell can come off chemically (bug spray if you will). Tobacco Vanille, the dirty chocolate under your seat makes sense with the tobacco + sweet vanilla combo. I think these reviews are realistic to what people would say about them if they didn’t know what they were at all. Part of owning many niche and designer fragrances is KNOWING what you have and knowing the brand, ie the package, aesthetic, unboxing, all of that goes into your assumptions on the fragrance. If you entered into every single fragrance without knowing what the scent is, or what brand it was, it’ll be much easier to draw your true opinion bc you aren’t influenced on your opinions of the brand.

@ehh26812 жыл бұрын
@@chilldude3333 There are many studies that show the importance of packaging, and it’s not just for fragrance. Why do you think people associate non-name brand products with lesser quality? Take cereal for example, if you seen ‘Honey Nut Cheerios’ sitting next to the great value version ‘Honey Nut O’s’ you’d automatically assume that honey nut Cheerios had a different or possibly better taste based on the packaging alone. Your perception would be different and therefor your experience throughout testing the product would be different as well. Just because you’ve never tried something in such way doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It’s actually the difference between knowledge vs Inference. One involves actually testing and deciding for yourself and the other is a simple assumption based off very little knowledge of what you are discussing. www.acrwebsite.org/volumes/6050 www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/jssdj/58/5/58_5_5_11/_pdf/-char/ja ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid:21b8b731-58d6-42bd-8111-f2f303ba3165/download_file?file_format=pdf&safe_filename=Spence%252C%2BCJ%2Band%2BVelasco%252C%2BC%252C%2B%25282018%2529%2BFood%2BQuality%2Band%2BPreference%2BAAM.pdf&type_of_work=Journal+article

I didn't get to smell it in the full dry down because the strip got contaminated by another PDM fragrance, Pegasus. I would've asked the young lady at the counter to spray it again, but I didn't want to be a bother. These reactions are going over so many people's heads, it's shocking. The fragrance community is stuck so far up its own ass that it can't acknowledge that 99% of the general populace doesn't give a fuck about fragrances. These are what the REAL, everyday people think you smell like when you walk by them in a mall, supermarket, or workplace. It should be eye opening - but instead, you buckle down on your stance and shun everything they say. Way to be open-minded. 😂 Note: Coming from someone who is very much into fragrances, but doesn't pretend people can't have their own opinions about how something smells.

@YourMajesty1432 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm just starting this hobby and so many reactions are turning me off from being a part of this community, but your reaction is refreshing. It seems most commenters want an echo chamber of fragheads who will reinforce their opinion, rather than take it on the chin that not everyone likes the same things. Only a small percentage of people have developed their noses to enjoy niche fragrances, so idk why it comes as a surprise that many of these colognes weren't loved. Imagine if a group of foodies, who enjoy exotic cultural dishes, got mad that blind testers of those foods were gagging since their taste buds weren't acclimated to certain flavor profiles or hot spices. Just like palates vary wildly, so do scent preferences. In fact, most of our sensory of flavor stems from smell. So it boggles my mind that despite the general sentiment that it's acceptable not to like the same foods, the reactions here can't apply that same logic to scent.

The fact that people get pissed off about the comments doesn’t even mean that they themselves like them, it means that what people in the video say is totally off, like they’re saying the notes randomly for the sake of the video. I love Tessa and Erica's reactions! They're so on the money. Now I'm curious about checking out Mancera Cedrat Boise. Honestly never heard about it. I'll have to test to see how similar it smells to other citrusy stuff that I already have, ie Isey Miyake, Chanel Allure Homme Sport (regular) etc.
@Dracomies2 жыл бұрын
Update: I actually got around to buying it. My quick review: The top doesn't smell like Aventus but I can see why people think it does. It actually has an opening similar to Hanae Mori HM. The drydown smells like CK Euphoria Men, I swear to god it does. It's ironic because they have the same elements, ie patchouli, cedar, leather, woodsy, etc. I still would give the nod to Mont Blanc Explorer over this. But that's just my 2 cents :D
@jacobdoria-smith29062 жыл бұрын
@@Dracomies yeah i dont really get how people can compare it to aventus its a bit more smokey and citrus but i love it for Spring. I like it in summer but on really hot days its very cloying which can get overwhelming but i recommend like a warmer fall or spring its perfect
@Dracomies2 жыл бұрын
@@jacobdoria-smith2906 I know this sounds goofy but I like spraying it around my bed before I sleep. I like the way it smells when I wake up. But it's not something I would wear for myself. That said, I do spray it for myself every now and then but I still think there are other things I'd rather use instead haha. I I gotta admit I was expecting a bomb of some sort - based on the reactions. Overall it's a pleasant smell. I really love the drydown but that takes a while to kick in. I don't like the mids. Top smells like Hanae Mori. Mid smells like CK Euphoria. Drydown smells like...damn it smells good and I can't place what it smells like.

I am surprised no one picked up on the leather note. As soon as I spray it I get a bunch of fruits and leather. Later the vanilla comes into play as well, but all they could smell was the lemon.

@@PersonaPrime Now that I've had this scent for a few hours I think I can give a more thorough review. I LOVE the drydown on this thing. There's how it smells in the beginning. Then after a few hours. But when it completely dries down, it smells so great. I wish there was a cologne that smelled like the drydown only haha.

OG fragrance enthusiasts know that the general population isn't into niche perfumes, and that the cheap crowd-pleasers are the ones that get all the compliments. No one who's been in this community for a long time would ever spend hundreds of dollars on a niche perfume for anything but their own enjoyment.

Interesting that people often don’t pick out what I think of as the key scents when they don’t know what to expect. For example the TF Tobacco smells very strongly of tobacco to me, but perhaps that is because I read the name and knew how to characterize what I was smelling. How much does the power of suggestion help you find the scents? This looks like it would be fun with a bunch of Frag lovers at a party, the same way blind wine tastings are fun, and let you really figure out how good your nose is.
@joebloc97502 жыл бұрын
These reviews are great because, not only is it a blind test but most of them are not well versed in fragrances. These reviews are what the average person is going to think , not everyone has smelled a ton of fragrances and has built of pallet for what good fragrances are.

Very interesting to see all of their reactions. TF Tobacco Vanille has been my favourite scent for a long time and I've gotten alot of compliments wearing it.
