According to Wikipedia, these commercials were filmed in South Africa. That would explain the announcers accent, and why the setting seems off to something in North America.

I didn't realize how white these Mentos ads were until now - not counting the Jetman parody of course. Looking at Wikipedia, these were filmed in South Africa during the early 90s. I wonder if these were filmed during the apartheid.

It's definitely something I've thought about since finding that out. That being said, as an American who came of age post-Columbine and post-9/11, it is WILD to see people getting into what today would be secured areas with no greater qualifications than being attractive and white and having a tube of Mentos. That being said, I could _definitely_ imagine people in Apartheid South Africa being that chill about white people with Mentos. Also, I looked it up because my brain worms would not let it go, and while the timeline is a _little_ unclear... yeah, these were definitely filmed under Apartheid 😬
