About Mat and Savanna Shaw
They are a daddy-daughter duo from Utah that rose to prominence during the COVID-19 quarantine. Savanna, eager to keep in touch with her music friends, started a music social media account. Normally a shy and private teenager, she was nervous to sing her first song by herself, so she asked her dad to join her in singing “The Prayer.”
After that video went viral, Mat and Savanna continued releasing duets on social media and streaming platforms, with singles charting in both the US and UK. They quickly garnered a worldwide following resulting in over a half million KZfaq subscribers. In October of 2020, their first album “Picture This” debuted at #1 on the iTunes Pop Chart. They have since taken the #1 spot on multiple Billboard music charts. Kelly Clarkson called them “incredibly gifted” and Good Morning America said, “this father-daughter duo’s music is bringing hope.”

Such an honor to do this video with these dads and daughters! When I became a father, my heart grew like I never imagined it could. A daughter can unlock places in a man’s soul that he didn’t know were there. Although we are never perfect, if fathers and daughters resolve is to stay close, to grow as they go, that bond has power to change the world.

I thought this same thing! I have a CD of Jon's music from before the piano guys, and one of the songs is sweet little Annie singing to her dad's music. It makes me happy and sad at the same time when I listen to it.

This was Such an amazing video shoot experience!!! Starting with the fact that Sarah and I had so much fun practicing and getting it all ready.. Then just hanging out with this bunch at the shoot was the absolute best…kind of a party! What a joy to get to know Mat, Savanna and Lucy. Ok, so I love playing the cello. I love writing music. I love sushi. But I have a special kind of love for being a dad. So much joy. And, to be honest, so much pain. Maybe I should say “growth.” 😌 Whoever said “no pain, no gain” could have been talking to a therapist about raising a teenage girl. I was talking to a friend about this and he stopped me mid-sentence and said, “Hey, remember this: You raise boys and you live with girls.” I laughed, but then I thought about my little Lucy. When she was born my heart grew bigger. And when she first winced at strained peas, took her first step, when she first mumbled the word “Daddy,” and when she played her first violin recital -- each time my heart grew again. Then things started to change. As she grew, her emotions started to outgrow her capability to process them. In what seemed like a blink of an eye, a cute little mumbled “Daddy” mutated into, “You’re the worst dad ever!” She didn’t mean it. But maybe I was a little worried she was right. My heart seemed to shrink back. As more change came I didn’t know how to handle the mood swings. I didn’t always manage them very well. There were times when I wanted to just avoid her or distance myself altogether. One day when she was in a moment of inexplicable “rage” I swallowed my own temper and said “Lucy, what’s wrong? How do I help?” She blurted out, with tears in her eyes, “I’m mad and I don’t know why. I just wish I wasn’t.” My heart grew bigger. I went over to her and wrapped her in the warmest hug I could manage and simply said, “I love you. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.” In that moment, I discovered that during all those times I wanted to distance myself, I should have been even closer. Not to “fix it,” like we men love to do, 🙄 but just to be there. She is going through so much change. I can change too. I can be better. We can change together. Right next to each other. That is the message of this song. Ben Platt wrote it beautifully as a plea during a break up. We wanted to perform it as a plea to our daughters that we’re not going anywhere; that we love them without contingency; that their changes are beautiful and inspire better changes in us. We can grow as we go, side by side, along this crazy capricious journey called life. Savanna, Sarah & Lucy, we love you. -Forever, Your Daddies ❤️👨👧

Damn. So right. It's not always easy, especially in our household. But we make do, and try to get better at every crisis. Growth is definitely the term; I wouldn't be the person I am today without the guidance of my children. They push us out of our zone of comfort, right ? And it's the only way to go, forward. We'd never have faced those questions, those internal struggles if not for them. Corentin still loves your music, thanks for the kind invitation in Olympia so many years ago. None of us forgot the great moment there, especially him. Love from all our family. Mom, sons, and their dad :)

Funny how God knows timing. Last night my daughter and I had a hard discussion. She doesn't want to believe some of the things we've taught her all her life. I don't know what her path will be in life, but I know I love her and I want her to always know I will be there for her. I really appreciate you putting this video out there today. My Beloved Dad was the best part of me as I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Then on March 1 1977 , my world as I knew it was changed forever. God took my Sweet Dad back to Heaven and for 44 years , my heart still remains in broken pieces 💔. If you are reading this please Cherish your Dad, tomorrow is promised to no one. All three daddy daughter duos were incredible and their connection made this song extra special. However, I'm especially impressed by the quality of Lucy's violin parts. She is incredible and at that age! I bet we'll see her follow in her father's footsteps. The love for music and the drive to be the best you can, is clearly there. Thanks for this wonderful song. It brought tears to my eyes. The greatest gifts God has given me are my children and grandchildren. I lost my dad in July 2021. One of the most profound and memorable things he told me was that I wouldn't understand what unconditional love was until I had a child. When I held my first daughter, I felt that unconditional love. I've never forgotten that quote or the feeling of holding a new born child. What a precious gift from God!

This brought tears to my eyes ! So beautiful and brought back such sweet memories of my Daddy and I. I lost him 27 years ago. 4 years ago I found my biological Father, Poppa. I was 60 ,he was 84. 4 years later we talk everyday and see each other when we can. We're 5 states apart. I've been truly blessed by my Daddy and my Poppa. Couldn't help but think about my husband and our daughter Britnee, who played the piano & violin beautifully (she loved playing Piano Guys stuff!). She unexpectedly passed away at age 18 in October 2020 after a surgery. Can't wait to hear her play again in the next life! This song and video are powerful. Can't help but cry as I listen and watch.

I've long loved the Piano Guys song "Where Are You Christmas" where a young Sarah sings then gives her dad a big hug at the end. It always makes me cry. It was fun to see Sarah again in this video, still looking like a daddy's girl as she looks up at her dad with so much love in her eyes. Beautiful. ♡

This collaboration moved me deeply, I weep thinking about my daughter whom we lost in May of 2020. My heart goes out to Jon as well. We both grew and changed over all those years, personally and in our relationship with one another. I've been blessed.

Girls don’t loose the love and appreciation for your dads. My dad was there for me. My dad let me make mistakes and loved me anyway. I loved him through his ups and downs, his divorce and changes in life. There was a time we didn’t talk and those moments can never be recovered. But thankfully our relationship mended before he passed and we spent hours on the phone talking everyday till the end. I miss him dearly. No body could ever love me like my dad did! Don’t ever let that love go!

As a musician, my Dad was always impressed and appreciative of my efforts. Then at his wife's funeral the first time in my entire life I was gifted to hear him sing The Old Rugged Cross. God forgive those who abused him, responsible for him never letting others hear that beautiful gift of a voice. His father a traveling musician leaving my Dad to raise his siblings and provide for them when their Father failed to do so. You're blessed to be able to experience this bonding together. Blessings.

I taught in a girls' school for 35 years. It was heartwarming to see the close bonds between fathers and daughters in this video because, during my career, I saw, unfortunately, the other side far too often. Absent fathers, switched off fathers, fathers and daughters constantly battling. I know that this is not the norm, I know that most fathers would go to hell and back for their children, but it was good for me to be reminded of that through this video. It made me rather sad though, thinking of my next-door neighbours, the children will never see the pride in their daddy's eyes, as was so obvious in the video. Tragically he died 7 years ago, his last words to me were "look after my family", and I always make sure that I'm there when they need me. Thank you for sharing this uplifting video.

My daughter has been going through a transition and has been gone for over a year without us in their life. This song is exactly how i feel. I don’t know how to be but i want to change with them as we Both grow to become better people. I pray that some day this will be a motto of our life together.

Beautiful! Love the lyrics. Brought some tears as I remember all the special times I had with my dad. I was blessed to have him walk me down the aisle when I got married. He passed away a year later. I think of him every day. He was a wonderful man and father.

Well done! :-) As Fathers we strive everyday to do our best, but we are far from perfect. It's our daily decision to love our daughters, and our daughters to love us, that allows us to Grow together. Beautiful ! I miss my dad so so much. He's been gone half my life. Died suddenly 32 years ago. I'm thankful I saw him daily even after I was married. He got to see two of our children. This is so beautiful.

This is just so gorgeous. I grew up listening to you Piano Guys. I actually loved your music so much that I wanted to learn to play the cello. Though I played it only for a short while, I found that it just wasn’t for me. However, I have been able to play the harp and the piano since about the age of 5 and I’ve been singing since I was about 3. Music has been my passion since I was small. As a teenager, I have explored the musical theatre world as well. That is how I came to listen to Ben Platt. This collaboration just makes me so happy and you are all so talented. When I graduate in 2 years, I will be doing a Daddy daughter duet with my dad at my last high school choir concert. This would be a beautiful one to do. 💙🎵🎶
