Love the tutorial. Thanks! For anyone who wants to generate the starting shape inside of geometry nodes you can use the Cylinder node with 8 vertices and 3 side segments. The Cylinder node has selectors for Top vertex group and Bottom vertex group. You can use these to collapse the ends of the cylinder into a single point with two Set Position nodes (x=0, y=0) and use the z value (I like z=0.7 and z=-0.7) to control the pointyness. Lastly a Merge By Distance node will clean up the extra verts. The settings for the cylinder can be fed back out to the Group Input to provide some more knobs to turn.

Awesome! I've wanted to make this kind of aesthetic since I was a teenager...could never figure out how. At around the 5-7 minute mark I was able to tweak it to how I wanted it to look like. Thank you so much

Enjoyed this. Tutorial falls apart between 11:15 and 11:26 where you suddenly change your group inputs without explanation, and at 13:19 where you...maybe?...go back to the set position at the end?... I was able to figure it out for the most part, but it's annoying.

hi great tutorial just starting to learn Blender :-) is there any way to have a different base and objects spread across it? say, a base cube but with spheres scattered?
@JoeyCarlino
@JoeyCarlino 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you would just use multiple objects instead of referencing the same object multiple times. You can drag objects from the outliner directly into the geometry nodes workspace.

@JoeyCarlino
@JoeyCarlino 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tested that, but yeah you can do that. You can try using the "distribute points on faces" node, then instance crystals on the points.

hey man i wanted to make a low poly character + an easy animation and it went well until i realised that my armature doesent work because i used the mirror modifier and when i move with one arm of the armature in pose mode it moves with both arms on the model (on the non-mirorred side the mirorred doesent move with the armature). So i was wondering if there is any solution to make it work properly without the need of a complete rework without the modifier. if anyone has any tips i would really appriciate them thanks.

Yes, but I haven't tried it yet I was planning on making a video about that eventually. You could try using vertex groups, or the "distribute points on faces" node

looks good . . BUT . . I don't like the deform it's messy and that just doesn't make sence with crystallization . . whitch is basicly what you are doing also some orderganization would be nice . . because you get a mix of both in the real world

Has all of this stuff changed recently? I cannot locate "Instance by Points" but I have "Point Instance" and I cannot locate "Distribute by Points on Face" but I can locate "Point Distribute" but the nodes have different inputs.
@JoeyCarlino
@JoeyCarlino 2 жыл бұрын
I was using 3.0 when I made this. Geometry nodes is a part of Blender that will continue to change, but as far as I know the concepts will stay the same, so if your nodes are different, you can use the equivalent as long as it is the same version or newer.
