I don't have a "grow room" but last year I grew a few plants, very successfully for my own use, in my 10 X10 basement room completely sealed off to everything except the entry door to access the room, no windows no vents, etc, all concrete. I had an LED grow light, a dehumidifier and a box fan with a charcoal filter mated to it for odor control and another box fan for air circulation. The only time I would go in was when I watered. Grow light was remote controlled. It was surprisingly simple although I had some fights with soil gnats and some powdery mildew but the end product was excellent. The only fail was odor control, especially during flowering. I'm trying to decide if a stand alone fan and filter(similar to what people use in a grow tent) would work vs a reasonably sized(???) ozone generator. The ozone generator is tempting. On the other hand, I might be able to create negative pressure with a fan/filter. Any advice would be appreciated.
@growell
@growell 2 жыл бұрын
If its unventilated we'd go with extraction all day. Using ozone on a space that size would be potentially dangerous as you certainly do not want to be breathing that in. So in short, extraction all day long.

Wow, I have been looking and looking and your vid is one of the first I have come across that explains this so well. Thank you! What would you consider good for venting 2 4x4's and my only concern is odor control since the smells make him nauseous. I am currently using a vivosun 6" fan but my tent is a bubble lol. I know it pulls plenty of air into this from via the tent, from the rest of my house because you can feel the air that rushes in from under the door (2 " crack at bottom for air exchange).

Nice video. What is proper ventilation for a 5x5 tent grow with a 730W LED in a room with 10,000 BTU window AC? The house has central air. Half the window AC will be routed into the tent for a constant supply of cool air. Should I exhaust the tent out the window, in another part of the house, or in the same room ? 2 in-line fans, one for intake, one for exhaust or just one for exhaust that’ll pull air into the tent too ? Thank you!
@growell
@growell 2 жыл бұрын
With a growing space of that size we'd definitely use an in-take and out-take fan. Ideally have your exhaust out of a window if able. If you can't extract out of a window then have the exhaust go into another room.

Would a small 600x600mmx1650mm high tent work with a filter and ext fan up top of tent, and re-routed to bottom of tent, with a small exhale bag hanging low. kind of like a closed loop circuit. so there would be no in take of fresh air (other then when I open tent to water). But there is a small oscillating fan running. Temp of tent is controlled via the room temp. Thanks

Yes, because of the size of tent passive intake should be fine. But keep an eye on your light as this will have the greatest effect on temperature in the described setup.

Using a extractor that can pull 700m³/h, can i use only passive intake or should i use passive and active intake. How big does the intake hole have to be for 700m/³ or what is the lowest m³/h i can activly put in so it has good pressure inside the grow.
@growell
@growell Жыл бұрын
An extractor fan that strong certainly requires you to have an in-take fan running as well. Passive intake won't be able to keep up when you've got your fan running at higher settings. For simplicity just match the size of ducting to the spigot on the fan. So if your fan has a 150mm spigot for example you'll want 150mm ducting and therefore an intake hole of at least 150mm, though most grow tents support all ducting sizes. When it comes to pressure inside the grow room, you just want to have a slight negative pressure our recommendation for in-take in most cases is to opt for the next fan size down. So, if you've got a 150mm fan for extraction we'd recommend a 125mm fan for in-take, as an example.

Can someone answer me this . Is it better to have 2 exhaust fans or 1 with the equivalent cfm3? I’m considering buying either 2 at 1400cfm each or 1 at 2800cfm , I wanted just the one but realised it would be much heavier to install but then I started wondering if I had 2 they Would possibly fight against each other?
@growell
@growell 2 жыл бұрын
There are pro's and con's to both. We'd say that it is mostly dependant on the size of the growing space. The pro's of 2 extraction fans (placed at opposite ends of the growing space) is that the air will be drawn in different directions which will mix the air effectively. Evenly spreading out temperature and humidity etc. The con though of having 2 extraction fans is that if you are operating them from a temperature controller there will be greater swing in fans being on and off, as both fans will work in unison to moderate the temperature change in the growing space. In terms of actual air being extracted having 1 or 2 fans won't matter as the same amount of air will be extracted, given the example you're using. A single fan is suitable for anywhere up to roughly a 4m x 5m space, we would begin to use multiple fans after that point.

Is there a way to have the filter and fan outside of the tent, pulling air out as opposed to sucking air into the filter? In order to free up room inside the tent... If so, please do a video demonstrating this🙏
@growell
@growell Жыл бұрын
It is possible using the fans and filters we show in this video to have just the filter inside the tent, then run the ducting outside of the tent to the extraction fan. If you want both the fan and filter to be outside of the tent, then you'll need to buy an 'Inline filter'. This is a filter in a special housing that ensures it only filters the air inside the tent, whilst being positioned outside the tent. Here is one as an example: www.growell.co.uk/fans-filters-environment/carbon-filters/carboair-inline-carbon-filters.html We don't have a video on this kind of extraction yet but it's a good idea, so something we'll work on doing in the future.

I was wondering how could this set up be as it looks like a closed system with no relation to the room itsel. It looks like it sucks the air from outside and move through itself and then back out. I would think. there should be two separate set up. One blowing air into the room. And another completely different set up at the other side of the room blowing air out. What I like to see exactly the part that the air actually enters the room, not the part that is outside the room, that is obvious. Then I like to see the part that the air from the room enters and is pushed out, not the part that is outside the room. You can't have the blowing in and blowing out next to each other.. I don't get it.
@growell
@growell Жыл бұрын
What you'd like to see is a space comprising of both an air in-take and out-take. In grow tents over a certain size we certainly recommend using an air in-take, but with a tent of the size we're using in the video, passive in-take will suffice. Plus we're definitely keeping our focus on extraction in this video. That being said the layout you talk about, with the extraction and in-take systems at opposite ends of the growing space (if you're using both) is the correct idea.

The point of the extractor in the tent outside of temperature control, is to keep a flow of air which provides a healthy amount of CO2 for the plants in the tent.

If you are extracting from your tent into a room, and then intaking into the tent from that same room, then that’s not ideal. The air will heat up over time, CO2 will deplete and humidity could become an issue. Much better to take your extraction exhaust to a different place if possible.

I did this mistake by ordering a grow kit. Only the light and the tent was somewhat worth the price, everything else was basic and cheap. The fan was extremely loud and barely powerful. The carbon filter is cheap as well, and probably exhausts carbon dust particles which is not safe for breathing. Now i have to buy another fan and a filter and spend more money.

Iv always got the best filters but it’s hard to say they last 2-3 years , that depends on a few things , such as I run mine 24/7 some people turn them off at night which would straight up give them twice the life as mine, also humidity will effect them so if you live in a high humidity environment it will shorten the life, also filtering the incoming air , I have dust filters on my air intake those filters need cleaning every month as they get caked with dust from the air without it all that dust would be clogging up the filter even with the filter protector some still gets through.

@@JohnAlexanderramboparyjrthe3rd I always run filters 24/7, where I’m at humidity is normally low I use humidifiers to take you to around 65% max. Once you go over 75/80% filters don’t work. @growell
@growell 2 жыл бұрын
The aim with extraction from tents is to create good airflow and help control your temperature, plus remove old CO2 depleted air from the grow space. With a filter they can also remove unpleasant smells from the grow space at the same time. Using an in-take fan helps bring CO2 into the grow space, and you can use canister gas or a mushroom bag to add additional CO2. So you're not trying to pump out CO2. That's another reason to have the extraction at the top of the tent, CO2 is a heavier gas and will generally concentrate lower down in the tent, having the extraction high up reduces the amount of CO2 removed before your plants can use it.
