UGH! i know! peonies do not love that hot weather! if you ever want to order some from an east coast grower, Harmony Harvest Farm ships them. My mom lives in florida and I send her Harmony Harvests peonies every year and they are great!

I only have 24 so far, but I'm putting in more this fall. My sister in law is a florist. I'm going to specialize in celosia for wholesale. I have the absolute best luck growing them in my climate. The pest pressure is very low and hardly anything to worry about with disease, and some varieties are excellent for drying. I really enjoy all of the information that you share with us. Thank you! 🪻

This was very informative. I came across it looking at pretty much anything new in peonies on KZfaq. I love to create and research in order to create. I'm not a natural gardener, but am learning and growing. I went down a peony "rabbit hole" a few years ago when 3 things came together for me: I realized how easy they are to plant and grow, I learned about the cold storage, and someone in Germany had posted the 1968 Brand Peony Catalogue (the year I was born). My goal has been to have one of each of all the doubles mentioned in that catalogue (except the Sarah Bernhardt and other too common ones). I had about 30 (plus a few not on the list), when I recently discovered the Gilbert H. Wild catalogue from 1968. This has about 3x the number of double peonies, and only about 10 are on both lists! 😂 At the moment, I'm about at 50 different varieties. How's that for nerdy? I'm not sure what I'll end up doing with them all. I'm retiring this year so will have plenty of time for practice and experimenting... and collecting haha. I may sell peony bunches along with pies at farmer's markets; I might support non-profit causes, or I may come up with something new. I'm sure I'd be willing to be a resource eventually for someone looking for an heirloom root. I'll be checking out your websites now...

Wow!!! So exciting! Where in Maryland? Midsommar has an open farm day every Spring. You should definitely go and check them out. I love that you're collecting so many old heirloom varieties. Do you have a favorite so far?

@@ellenfrostflowers I'm in Jarrettsville. I will definitely go to one of her open farm days in the future. My peonies are 0-3 years old, and I'm just getting started. I'm buying as quickly as I can, because a couple of sources have already closed doors. I missed Song Sparrow completely! A smaller grower in Kentucky closed suddenly due to illness, Parkland in Canada began not shipping to the U.S. during COVID, and Countryside Peony Farm retired and closed too. Hidden Springs owners retired, but the new owners seem to be selling all of the same varieties. Champlain is the only newer grower online that offers enough heirloom to be interesting and I'm quite excited by them. I did get some nice surprises already, though. In the spring of 2022, I found David Harum had a much nicer scent than advertised. I guess that was kind of a favorite because of the surprise, although Philippe Rivoire is a lovely dark red with a wonderful scent. This past spring, I would say the 2 year-old Martha Bullock really showed off. The picture I took with my cheap phone was still so beautiful, the seller, Oh My, Peonies! asked if they could use it (if they could photo-shop my hand out- I was making a note to myself that the bloom was as big as my hand). I would attach the picture here if I could. I think the varieties I have/will have will be a sea of loveliness, and they'll take turns shining. Storage and vase life will require a lot of future experimentation. They have garden labels with the variety name and year of registration; give me several more years and you'll be welcome to come find your favorites.😁

How long 'inches' do stems need to be when sold wholesale to florist
@ellenfrostflowers
@ellenfrostflowers 3 ай бұрын
For peonies, I would say 12-14 inches is the minimum. However you can always sell shorter stems for less money. Just be sure to let the florist know the length when you send your availability list. if you haven't watched my Flower Math Series with Jennie Love, check it out. We talk alot about grading and selling different length stems for different prices.

In the process now of finding our market outlet for sales. Would you mind sharing your email address as we may want to get in on a large group order for next year.
