Unfortunately, it would cost me a couple of thousand to grow peppers in 5 gallon containers. Then again, I have over 200 started indoors. I'm working on a set of garden beds I messed up last year with heavy mulch and I'm going to re-establish a perennial living mulch to deal with fertility and bugs. Clovers, mints, lemonbalm, thyme, etc... and I'm figuring out how to plant stuff in that. I'm convinced I could commercially grow wheat with no fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. The only thing I add are compost and aerated compost tea. As for seed starting/potting soil, I've found that finding some sugar sand and mixing it shovel for shovel with quality compost works great, but I have enough room to set up compost piles where I can put dead animals in it safely.

I live in a northern climate so utilize a greenhouse and temperatures are mostly in the range you refer to. I use a soil moisture meter. I tried sweet pickle(Christmas tree)sweet peppers. I got lots of healthy looking foliage but not a single blossom. Any thoughts?
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 3 ай бұрын
Hmm, it can be frustrating at times, can't it? Here are some thoughts, perhaps you've tried some/already know this...but maybe something will click..... Make sure they're getting at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. They don't like to sit in waterlogged soil, so ensure your soil is well-draining. Peppers thrive when it's consistently warm, ideally between 70-80°F during the day and not dipping below 60°F at night; make sure you are around those temps? Last, give them a gentle shake when they're in bloom to help with pollination. Does that help? Do any of these resonate? Thanks for watching and commenting, and If you are not a subscriber, I hope that you do! CaliKim

I grow peppers in fabric pots and they do very well. But i see you plant 2 in one pot. I saw a video on growing 2 plants in one hole . This is supposed to keep them from fighting for nutients by seeming like its one plant. What do you think of that idea. I am anxious to hear your opinion. Thank you.

Hard to say ...many variables, assess the following and adjust as necessary - as I always say...EXPERIMENT. How was your: Watering? Nutrients? Light? Temperature? Pests? Diseases? Root Health? You need to examine these factors and make any necessary adjustments, you can hopefully revive your strawberry plants and get them back on track to thriving. If you don't know about these particular items --- that's where you start researching and watching videos, etc. Hope this helps... Keep us posted - CaliKim Thanks for following if you do not already (I am unable to tell)!

Hi Kim. Do you think I could grow California Wonder peppers inside my condo using grow lights? Each shelf on my plant stand has two 3 foot grow lights above the plants. The plant stand is against my deck windows which has a southern exposure. I live in Seattle and during the summer months, June July August, my condo is usually 75 or so degrees. Sometimes hotter. I am successfully growing ginger, turmeric and miniature tomato plants along with a variety of herbs in my condo. Also, what do you think about watering the peppers from below in a tray instead of from the top? Thank you. Your videos are very illuminating. Cheers and enjoy your fertile oasis. Ray. 🥂
@CaliKim29
@CaliKim29 3 ай бұрын
Your setup with the plant stand against southern-exposed windows and grow lights should provide sufficient light for pepper plants. This will ensure they receive the necessary light intensity, especially Seattle where natural sunlight can be limited. 75 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months, should also be suitable for pepper plants, as they thrive in warm temperatures. Just make sure the temperature doesn't exceed the tolerance range for the specific variety of peppers you're growing. Just keep an eye on your pepper plants for signs of stress, such as wilting or leaf discoloration, and adjust conditions accordingly. Yes, big fan of "bottom watering". Give it a go - there's nothing to lose and a ton to gain, right? I'm not too sure if you follow or not, Ray, but hope you subscribe! CK Keep us posted.

You do not need a “smart pot” brand. Air pruning happens in all fabric grow bags. That was kinda misleading. I’m sure there’s a commission or something but any grow bag is great.
