I demoed their regular Halo speed disc in the summer, and just finished with it in corn stubble and it was awesome. Also tried it on some soybean ground as the ground conditions were similar to spring. First tool I've ever used where I could basically plant into it. Getting pricing on a 25' unit from our local dealer and hope to have one for spring.

I’m glad you showed it running over corn stalks, that’s was my first thought to use it on. We’ve been kicking around ideas about what we want to do different into the future. Guys around here like the old Areoway tools. Couple guys strictly make a pass with one and plant. As much as I like driving tractor, I like money in my pocket as well. It would be nice to try one in the fall then notill beans in the spring into what fodder is remaining. Nice video Tony.

I used one of the old style airways and to be honest I never saw the point in stalks going to beans. By the time we got to beans soil temp was up. Where we liked it was in the fall on bean stubble. It would help bring soil temp up a bit sooner and dry out a little quicker if you were going to notill corn. My dad liked running a rolling basket behind it but I didn't see the point to that either. To me the goal was to fracture and get a little space in the soil. To me the basket just mats the fractures closed again.

Salford have some awesome new tillage equipment out lately they look impressive from what I have seen so far Larson Farms in Minnesota they demoed one and in that black heavy soil it worked well I think they said they are going to purchase a 29 footer

The Aerway tines act as an aerator. I use an Aerway for aeration because I have areas of clay near the surface and without aeration the clay forms a hardpan that stops root growth. The Aerway gang angles make the tine action adjust from almost a rotor tiller to a straight aerator that just puts the tine in the ground and fractures the soil because of the twist in the blade. I've had the Aerway for about 10 years and it has changed the soil composition over that time by allowing more air into the soil increasing bio-activity, and conditions the soil giving better water penetration and retention. I've found that the most benefit is using it in the fall as water will soak into the tine openings. When it rains or snows, the water gets into the openings and soil fractures and then freezes helping open the soil even further.

If the water sitting in the time hole actually fractured the soil, then you would need to replace the ice cube trays every time you make ice cubes in your freezer. Both holes are tapered so the ice merely swells upward and outward. The root that gets into the tine hole never gets out either. Your are right about water retention. That what dirt race track operators love the Aerway Shattertine. They don't have to rewater the track all night. Just what every farmer needs!!!

That's the way our salford is. Built heavy duty, our 7810 handles it at 175hp and handles it with ease at 9mph, I'll send you a link to the video. Let me know if I explained anything wrong. I'll send you the link when it's uploaded

The Aerway Shattertine does not shatter, Friends. If you watch carefully you can see the smear the tine makes. The reason you talk about holding water which you are hoping freezes to fracture the soil? If it shattered the soil the time hole wouldn't hold water to freeze. Welcome to localized anaerobic soil conditions behind this foolishness.

When you angle the blades do they all angle the same direction and if so does it leave ridges and valleys???

I pull a 35’ turbo till now with ease with an 9410R. This Salford looks great, but no way I want to go back to a 20’ tool. Not sure why these have to take so much HP.

You can pull the tines up in the spring of you want to so they don't run as deep. It is a two season tool and meant to be planted behind.

Be careful of the Aerway tines. They do not do as good of a job as Smart-Till tines. Smart-Till had the first patent on their tines. Aerway wanted to do the same thing, but they had to change the angle and a few things to get a patent. By changing these things, Aerway tines do not do as good of a job as Smart-Till tines. You pointed out the hole that the Aerway tine made, and you said that it could fill up with water. Well,.....that is not what you want. You do not want water or liquid manure to stay in that hole. You want a tine that will do a good job fracturing in all directions, so the water and liquid manure go down in the soil where it is needed. This extra fracturing also allows the roots to go straight for moisture. Roots do not lie. Whether they are crop roots or weed roots,.....the roots will not lie. Meaning,.....the tap roots/feed roots want to go straight down to moisture, but if they run into compaction, the root will take a right turn or left turn to try and find an easy way down to the moisture. The Smart-Till tines create a "ripping" effect that breaks through subsoil to allow more rapid air and water exchange, thus moving water and liquid manure into the subsoil instead of resting in the plow layer or holes, so roots can easily penetrate the soil. There are many KZfaq videos of Smart-Till to watch, and testimonials on the Smart-Till website.

FarmerBoy you have done a great job in your comment trying to keep people out of trouble. You might want to visit us at CurseBuster to the next generation after Smart Till. Truly tillage should be a management tool that optimizes the soil ecosystem. The Halo misses the mark.
@jimmartindale3 жыл бұрын
The fact is Aerway licensed the Smart Till tine known as the Ground Hog from the inventor in 1983. They stopped using it in Age machines in 1988 when they introduced their version, the Shattertine. They continued the NZ original in turf machines because the Shattertine killed the grass. Hmmm...

@@jimmartindale Thank You for your compliment. But I noticed that you have your own KZfaq channel, and after looking at your channel, I feel small compared to your wealth of knowledge. It looks like you have been very involved with Smart-Till and CurseBuster tillage equipment. It also looks like you are a fellow Born-Again Believer.
