Күн бұрын

The dawn of a new summer season at the five-acre GardenFarm is always exciting but plenty of hard work. A bountiful garden is rarely an accident - there is preparation, planning and maintenance to do. Meanwhile, host Joe Lamp'l takes on a new project to get his daughter, Amy, excited about the world of gardening. In this episode, Joe and Amy share their entire journey from when to purchase seeds to the proper time to sow and on to bringing the young seedlings outdoors and finally to market. All the while, Joe is preparing his own raised beds.

I've just recently discovered your shows/podcast, do you all still sell plants at the Alpharetta farmers market? I am now listening to the podcast all day while I work (remodeling homes) and just started watching this channel when I get home....yes, I'm addicted!

Hi. Thank you!! We now sell our seedlings during April each year from our farm in Milton. We have an IG and FB account. Both are “GardenFarmGrown”. Also if you want me to add you to our notification list for the upcoming sale and inventory, shoot me a DM and I’ll get you added. Thanks! 👍

As long as temps don't get too low could you leave the seedlings outside under a shade cloth except for the hardening hours instead of moving them in and out each day?

How did you make your tomato cages? I work with Pre - Pre school and Preschool ages at my In Home Child Care and we grow a garden every year. These look like they would hold up better for little hands!

We had trouble with deer till we added an "attack sprinkler" on top of a low fence post. They are water sprinklers that have motion detectors in them. These are spitter sprinklers that have quite a startle effect. From day one of the sprinkler install, the deer never came near the garden again. Additionally we put one of the sprinklers down at ground level to keep the chickens out of the tomatoes. Worked like a charm. The hens would not go near the garden after just one soaking.

This is awesome! I love the shots where your dog is checking on things, making sure you all do everything right . Hehe. Love to see your bird feeders full of seed. I had no clue the amount of work it takes to mass produce a product. Never knew about hardening for the plants. I am learning so much. Glad to see your daughter is into it! She is the future

Do you keep your tomato varieties separated when planting them in the garden? I'm not clear on cross pollination... do I need to worry about that with heirloom tomatoes?
@ggwtv
@ggwtv 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessary. Tomatoes are self-pollinating so risk of cross pollination is very low. If you're very worried about that then maybe you keep some distance but I never bother and save seed successfully.

I'm curious. . .you mention your daughter was able to make about a thousand dollars on this venture. Did that take into account the cost of all the seed trays and grow lights and heat mats, etc? Or did you already have all that infrastructure in place? Just curious if this would be a viable way to increase my garden budget. :)

That was the gross sales. We had some of that equipment but the cost of acquisition does need to come out of that number.
