I had done this a different way, doing the 'seeding' separately, I like they way of this video better though. Will try this next year. I seeded and potted 4 , sometime in nov dec of 2022, one survived through to the final outdoor in-ground planting, it is about 9 or 10 inches./ 25cm tall now, and really looking good.

I would like to share some experimental germination methods with you guys. I was trying to germinate some appleseeds and it seemd that only a few would germinate. I then took some more seeds and started trying some strategies out. And one seemd to work really well. I started peeling of the skin on the seed, then let it soak for about 24 hours, then i would put it in a wet paper towl with some cinnamon and in a 1-2 week period i would then switch between putting them in the fridge and freezer. Now a larger amount would sprout and when i saw the root beginning to emerge i would then place it in a dark location out of the fridge. Now ive got a larger success rate than before and it has worked on peach, apricots and other fruits.

Hello. I really love your video on how to grow an apple from seed. Some expert are saying apple grown from seed has to go through refregrator on paper towel but I see your method is different. So after the apple germinate, do we leave it in the shade where it can have indirect sunlight or what do we do to ensure the seedling are comfortable? Pls I need your advice. Thank you
@GrowWithKit

Most of the ones you buy are refrigerated for long periods and they seem to germinate well anyway. They need as much light as possible really but not to hot, morning or evening sun but avoid full on sun if it’s hot. Hope that helps 🌱😊

QUESTION; What is the max time frame/window whereby I can pot a apple tree from seedling, and NOT plant it in the ground yet, but not interfere with its growth cycle so that it won't have it's size stunted due to being in a pot for too long? Is it a matter of using big enough pots, to accommodate the growth till planting? Is there a chart or rule of thumb to be sure we are giving it a large enough pot till actual in-ground planting?

Question 2; Now that I have one tree planted, in az (will be 120f 49c later this summer) I flood it about 3 times a day as it is already hot, do I need to add fertilizer or some kind of 'miracle grow' vitamin periodically? After about three weeks now in the ground it appears to be thriving.

I have 3 saplings that are 5 months old in individual pots. They seem healthy but they aren't growing very tall. At 5 months old mine are still the same height as yours are at 1 week, they have new leaves growing and seem healthy they just aren't going up and I'm not sure how to make them grow upwards. not sure if it is because I grew them through autumn and winter and that effected their growth. I didn't actually plan on growing apple trees, but the apple i was eating when i reached the core the seeds had all germinated so i thought I'd give it a go in houseplant potting soil.

All that I did while in the potting soil was keep it watered. My success though in going from pot to earth was just that 1 out of 4 that I'd started with, hard to tell why I had such bad luck. @@GrowWithKit i addition to what he said, once your apple is 2years old, start applying calcium to it to stimulate fruition. You can get calcium from: 1. Ash (simply born woods to ashes. Preferably do not add kerosene. 2. Dental powder. Yes you heard me. Most dental powders sold in nigeria ( i guess you from Nigeria by your name, though cannot guarrantee you are based in Nigeria.) are just calcium. 3. Enjoyed the vid.. but rather confusing when some say the seeds need stratification, but you (and others) don't !.. By the time my seeds come out of the fridge, yours will have germinated and grown six inches tall!..

My trees are about the same size as yours but the leaves are going brown pretty quick - too much heat/sun?

Thanks. Some hot days here in Melbourne so I'll keep an eye on them - others are doing well - the pots the browning ones are in are broken and not keeping water well so will try transferring them today.

Something really bad happens and I have a question. Someone emptied my apple tree pit and I have been growing them for 5 months. The roots were there so I put it in the pot again. Will it stillbirth grow

☹️ that’s a shame, you can try but if the stem is broken it probably won’t regrow.

I have three apple plants, 4 months old, each one in a pot with potting mixture. One of them start to show dry brown flakey leaves at the middle of the plant, this sign distributed to the all leaves of it, at the end, the plant died. Now, the same signs showed in the other one, I’m worried to loose it. I use moisture meter for adequate moisture & avoid overwatering, what is happening to my apple plants?

I just used multi purpose compost, you can mix in some sand or grit to improve drainage if you want. Doesn’t matter too much.

I planted pear and apple seeds roughly 15 years ago. Not one of my 70 trees is providing edible fruit. The apples are crabapples, and the pears are bradford pears. This may be fun, and may produce mast for wildlife, but you're unlikely to get fruit you want to eat.

I normally use a pump spray bottle with water & few drops of washing up liquid, just blast them off. I try not to use chemicals but you can get bug sprays.

When do you plant in the grand
@GrowWithKit
@GrowWithKit Жыл бұрын
I’ve kept these in pots but you can basically plant them in the ground whenever you like, I would let them grow in the pots until they’re at least 1-2ft though just to make sure they don’t get eaten or swamped out with weeds.

I'm in Massachusetts I didn't try hard and I have about 10 inch apple trees in pots. They are doing great. But soon enough it will be very cold and snowing in a few months. I have no clue what to do with them? I don't have a greenhouse. Can I keep them in my house? Should I leave them on my porch? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
@GrowWithKit
@GrowWithKit Жыл бұрын
That’s fantastic well done, they’ll be fine outside they are fully hardy, if they are quite small put them somewhere a bit sheltered, porch is ideal, you’ll do more harm than good bringing them in the house, they need to go dormant over the winter.

When I was eating a apple I noticed two seed in it already began to sprout so I planted them each in cups. They've grown to about 1 inch maybe 2 and I was wondering if I should try planting them outside so they can get proper sunlight
@GrowWithKit
@GrowWithKit 2 жыл бұрын
Start by placing them outside for a couple hrs a day so they get use to the sunlight, they’ll get frazzled if you put them straight out. Also you can leave them to grow a bit more in the cups. It’s very common to get sprouted seeds in apples because they’re refrigerated prior to supermarket, they sprout when you bring them into the warm.
