Squash beetles are the bane of my garden 😖 I have resorted to vacuuming them off my plants early in the day. I’m so glad I don’t have close neighbors because I look ridiculous vacuuming a garden 😂 it works great though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi Siloe', Another great video! You said you had problems with ground hogs or marmots...I had problems with them for the past few years. A few months ago I adopted a golden retriever / cocker spaniel mix dog. I decided to try putting some of his poop in the corners of my garden and where I saw where they had dug under the fence. I am happy to be able to report that after trying the planted dog poop I have not seen a marmot since! The dog poop also has discouraged the deer from eating the hastas and lilies from my front garden. I periodically place George's poop around the front garden and I also put little sachets of his hair tied to the lily plants and voila! Deer B. Gone! I refuse to use toxic chemicals on my property, And I don't have problems with any kind of beetles like the squash beetle since I started raising chickens. And my ducks will chase you down for a slug! So now my gardens, birds, dog and I live in harmony with the heard ( 8 ) of deer. If ONLY I could find a way to encourage the squirrels to take up residence in another neighborhood! My peach tree and two apple trees were laden with fruit this year and I did not get a single peach, apple, or apricot! Blasted squirrels! Oh, well...they are cute little vermin and fun to watch.

I don't care for the taste of cucamelons unfortunately but on the plus side, the bees love the starry yellow flowers that the vine produces. Also, I don't think that I can ever eat another store bought cucumber after growing my own, the taste difference is night and day.

I planted cucamelons for the first time this year and they will have a permanent home in my garden for the foreseeable future. They didn’t seem bothered by pest pressure. They’re good for pickling and they have a nice POP to them. It doesn’t hurt that they look like tiny baby watermelons 😀

I grew cucamelons last winter. I'm going to grows more this summer. I loved them. They grew very easy.

Tried cucamelons for the first time also and I just love them. Cucumber with a lime kick. No disease like the regular cucumbers 🥒 get. We are all in on these for the future. Great vlog.

For insect control try using BT or Spinosad after sunset. They are organic contact insecticide. To be more sure for beneficial insects try spraying at night.

Also called Mexican sour gerkins. Too hot for them in west Texas during summer but great for fall

My kids love cucamelons, we have been growing them for 3 years now and their awesome, veru heavy producers. I have a very similar issue with groundhogs they are terrible, I trap a good handful every year.

I believe what you think is Mexican beetle is actually a squash beetle. You can tell the difference between them by the number of spots on each wing. The squash beetle has 7 spots on each wing and the Mexican bean beetle has 8. Not that it makes much of a difference for you, just thought it was worth sharing :)

Why do most gardeners say don't bother saving cross bred vegetable seeds, because they won't produce reliably? Aren't they the same thing as F1 seeds you buy from a store?
