As a tomato myself, I hope my seeds are raised by a gardener like you with a nice system like yours. My babies will have much more uniform moisture.

An automatic watering system just gives piece of mind and if someone else is monitoring the water system there is not so much pressure on them as to how much water needs to be given. Just top up the reservoir and let the system do its work..... simples 😊

Hi JB, interesting to see how the watering system works in your polytunnel. I use 2L bottles, cut the bottom off, pierce some holes around the neck then sit a plant pot at the top so, not bees don't fall in. Place one by each plant. I don't have as many as you, but it does keep the spil in my beds from drying out. I also use halos too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

I'm loving all the tech making it's way to plots. I would love to have some kind of irrigation across my beds, just so when I'm up there I can spend that time being protective, rather then watering

Having used the autopot (6 pot system) last year it was a doddle to set up for my chollis and peppers in my greenhouse. I also now have 8 quadgrows and saldy they dont fit in. However I grow my cherry toms and crimson crushes in grow bags on my patio normally, so this year they got an upgrade. I now need to work put the greenhosue tomato set up. Your autopot discount code may come in handy 😉 Automated watering takes the stress out of it, which hipefully should reduce issues like blossom end rot and splitting due to inconsistant watering in hot weather (if we ever get a summer!) 🙄

Those auto pots and the drip system are just the ticket!! Looks like you set it up before your flight. Hope you had a lovely holiday and returned to thriving plants at the allotment AND home garden.

the drip irrigation I bought allows you to water every 12 hours for 5, 10,15 or 20 minutes (setting allow this for every 24/48 hours aswell). it did come with a console I had to attach to my fence so you could select between each option though. Still I think this will mainly come in handy in keeping things alive when on holiday. The autopots are great but I actually like watering my plants when I'm around, the problem comes when I'm away. For that reason I doubt I'd benefit personally. I've also tried using some wicking cord which is honestly pretty good for a quick self watering option. Just put one end in a water sorce and the other in the plant roots

Yes I think it's user error from me just not researching the product enough and getting one with a full controller unit! I still have plenty in just non automated pots and do sort of agree about watering manually. I do quite like it but it can be surprising how time consuming it can be in the height of summer!

@@JBNat definitely time consuming in the height of summer. Can totally understand when things get hectic, it's good to have self water on the go for situations like that.

I've just set up my autopots on one side of my wee polytunnel and quadgrows on the other side. Looking forward to seeing the difference in result on production of tomatoes and peppers from each. 🤔

I set up a drip system last year…did I use it? Did lots of testing and that is the rub. I have a container garden and things get moved around when needed but that meant plugging old holes and punching new ones. In the dead (pun not intended) of a Texas summer, that’s a lot of sweat effort that can only be done early or later in the day. Long story short, still haven’t automated garden so watering won’t be such a &#%@ing chore! Best of luck with yours.😅

Wow... That's not a lot of water per plant with that solar powered dripper system 😱It seems the roots didn't care too much for the dividers along the sided. Hope they haven't grown together too much when you go to re-pot them 🤞

What was the reason the budget system only does 10 minutes a day? Is it some kind of chip inside with a timer? If so, is it doing that because it's solar panel based and is trying to save battery? You'd think this would be something that could be changed somehow. Wonder if there's something inside that can be changed to increase the frequency to twice a day.

If you are handy with electronics you might be able to disassemble and rebuild but the unit I have only has a few preset options. They do have other models which I didn't realise had much better controllers

The solar system is inexpensive enough to get two working on the same area. Yes there's the argument about the lines seemingly everywhere, but the system should do what you want. 200 ml is, if math is right, 1/5 of a litre, which should be fine.

I was under the impression that tomatoes would easily get through a litre or two a day in the height of summer. I did think about getting two systems set up! I think I will send the second one I brought back and get one with a controller that lets the pump run for longer :)

Instead of promoting stuff to us mere peasants can you all on your channels please help us minors who want to grow and enjoy your channel at a cheap start. With simple systems that we don't have to pay for ?

There are plenty of DIY videos out there if you want to try and rig something up yourself! I simply don't have the time to spend trying to invent or create my own systems. I would love to but I already work at least 10-12 hours a day most days, including weekends, on the plot and making videos. I think muddybootz has done some videos on homemade systems. Hoocho has loads of good videos too. I thought it was a nice idea to show off autopot systems because you don't see them too often on allotments but because they're power-free and gravity fed I think they suit them quite well.
