I absolutely agree. It was bad for my self-esteem. I am 6 months in and I see a difference to my self-esteem. Getting older is not easy but fighting it is even harder because the grey will always come back. There is a heaviness that we let go of that is far greater than the heaviness of getting older.

I totally get it! I am in this same boat right now.. I am dying my hair for five years or so, wayyy darker then my own hair (I am a natural redhead) and I am so done with trying to mask my grey hairs and keeping up with it.. today I cancelled my hairdresser appointment and to be honest it feels liberating... yes I have some grey hairs but I also see my natural hair coming back and I love that❤ I am just tired of trying to be this certain image of myself...so now I just want to let it grow out further and see how it goes and maybe later on some subtle highlights if it really bothers me, but for now I feel this relief that I didn't dye my hair again and trying to embrace my natural hair🤗

I also got tired of the vicious cycle of dying my hair. I'm just 3 months into the grow out stage and YES awkward! But I refuse to chop it off and appreciate your positive encouragement to forge ahead. Your hair is beautiful!

@@therealsheilaford It is! Absolutely 💖 My Mom was unhappy about it and made it very clear (I'm late 30's but I guess she thinks her opinion could still sway me 🙄) I had one other family member who has pushed me very hard to be blonde, and stay blonde, in the past. I don't care what they think. In the end, it's my hair and dye is very damaging 💯👍

1000% agree!!! I'm one year in and lost about 3 or 4 months of growth to cover that darn demarcation line. Then I cute about 4" off of real deadness. Hair feels better now but hate how short it is.... That's my biggest regret. I LOVE my silver/white pattern and just can't wait for everything to grow. Next "trim" I figured I'll wait till this November. I found that air drying and putting a hair oil has changed the health so that I don't have to cut. OK done with the novel. Thank you for sharing with all us silver sisters! 🌻💛

I loved reading this! Hair oil has helped my hair health a lot, too. 😊 I bet that was a freeing feeling to get rid of some of the dyed hair! Honestly, I got out of the habit of going to my stylist since I didn’t need the dye anymore. 🤣 Definitely need to schedule something soon and let go of more of the old hair. It’s definitely a very personal process, that’s for sure! Thank you for sharing a bit of your journey with me. 🤍

My hair is fully gray. I let it grow out during lockdown. It took two years to grow out fully, so I don’t think I would’ve done it if I hadn’t been so isolated for so long. Honestly, I get mixed reviews about it. But I don’t care. My hair is so much healthier than it was when I colored it.

Got the last of my remaining blonde hair cut off today, revealing a natural (!!) combination of silver in my crown area, followed by grays, silvers, and natural darker hues at the nape of my neck. Went from shoulder length to just above my shoulders, and minus all of that thick hair gives me naturally curly hair. A long journey to full gray, but well worth it at age 54.

@@therealsheilaford The most unusual thing I've had happen to me hair-wise was during/after the birth of my daughter. My hair is naturally blonde, but during that time it became so dark it was almost black. One can only assume because of hormonal changes.

@@JBLynch that’s very interesting! I’ve heard hormones can change our hair, for sure. After my youngest was born mine became wavy when it was always very straight. I’ve also seen some of my gray areas darken when I’ve been doing longer fasting, which I’ve seen others report, too. So interesting!

In 9 days from today I will do my big chop and ditch hair dye. Why I'm going to do this? For the same reason you shared in your video. There's a part of me that doesn't feel authentic covering what is already there. I truly love the auburn color I still have, and it suits me as I have fair skin and green eyes. I'm in my 50s and I look younger than my age. I realized that it will be less shocking for the closest people in my life and for myself to do this at this stage of aging, because my skin still looks fresh and bright. If I decided on waiting longer, as I was originally planning in about 5 years, I feel it will be more drastic and harsher. So, I decided on a pixie shag cut and growing from there. I'm not very attached to my hair, so I can go in that direction, which is not from everyone.

I stopped 6 years ago dyeing my hair, just let it grow out.....BUT problems In taking vitimine supplements and changing my hair care with natural hair wash etc my hair is not all grey Its big white streaks with gray and with my natural pale red brown hair ( chestnut I am told) in 3 patches growing out to the full length of my hair. Streaking my hair.....its in 3 colours and everyone thinks its a bad hair dye.....I am just throwing my hands up in the air and saying ...SO !?????.... and trying to live with it.Because dyeing it is imposable because I am alergic to them and every shampoo and conditioner thats made now and dermatitis of the scalp if I use them happens with an imposable itch. And hair loss.OUCH!. .So I put my hair up and my white hair covers most of it if I arrange it properly, looks ok.

I’m sorry to read that it’s been so frustrating. I dealt with some hair loss, too. Learning to care for my natural hair has been quite a process. I didn’t realize how fragile gray hair can be. Mine isn’t fully gray, either. A lot of it is in chunks up front. Which, of course is seen on video.

@@therealsheilaford Found natural hair cleaner and treatment for hair loss....clay wash and mask, and oil treatments on U-tube tried them and they seem to be working...no more itch and dermo skin on scalp, hair is not dry split and snaping and breaking as much, hair strands are very thin ,break at a touch but not so much now ,so oil treatments seam to be strengthning it.Saw Palmento capsules every day ,also use only bore brissel brush, and NEVER brush or comb wet hair, never wash with chlorinated water ,use rain water or filterd water apple cider vinigar in water....no hair dryers ever.....Going to see what happens in the next couple of months, but signs looking good already.Rain water with a.p.cider viniger rince made my hair shiny and soft.

do you think hot sauna 160 degrees will make the colored part turn brassy sooner? True words thank you !

That’s an interesting question. I’m not sure. 🤔 I’m no expert, of course. I know UV exposure can cause brassiness. And, heat exposure from hot tools like curling irons can cause brassiness in lighter hair. But, those are usually well above 160°.
