Growing Potatoes By IGNORING Them (EPIC HARVEST)

In my potato growing journey this year, I decided to do a little experiment. What happens if you plant potatoes and then just TOTALLY IGNORE them? No hililng potatoes, no watering, no fertilizing. NOTHING.
Well, to my surprise, I ended up having the BEST yields from this method out of the 5 that I tried: 5 gallon buckets, grow bags, raised beds, and in ground with hilling. Crazy, right? Just goes to show you have to always test and question conventional wisdom.
No need for a fancy potato tower, or a complex watering and fertilization schedule. Just learn how to plant potatoes a bit deeper than recommended and wait for those beautiful taters to pop out of the ground.

Epic Gardening would you say potatoes almost do better with zero fertilizer than using any? You say amendment and talked about needing to balance out the clay with more Sandy type soil...with amendments did you use Earthworm castings or bat guano or bone meal or any type of organic soil builders? Or is this just mediocre soil that most other veggies would struggle to get its proper nutrition? Can you think of other veggies or fruits that do well with little to no feed?
@epicgardening

I used some compost and some soil conditioner to lighten the soil up a BIT, but honestly not a lot. Potatoes are a "pioneer crop" and are known for doing well in unimproved soil, so this is def. my new method for growing. I'd just bury deeper next time!

Isn't one supposed to wait to harvest until the foliage has died back? Also, putting grass clippings around the plant to shade the potatoes avoids greening, & also gives then free nitrogen & even bigger yields.
