I never knew lettuce could grow so big! Thank you for another enjoyable vid.

There are several varieties of romaine lettuce, some of them grows smaller and take less time to mature, some of them grow bigger with more time required to fully develop head. Thank You very much ☺🍀

Does the spruce shavings keep slugs away? Do you pull out the rooted part after harvest OR will the Romaine re-grow another head? Thank you for your video.
@Liap26 күн бұрын
Hello. Well I would say it discourages slugs to move on them. As they need moisture to move and the shavings dry out pretty fast on the top. They don’t like dry and rough surfaces. Yes I pulled it out. It will grow some side shoots if You let big enough stem in the soil, but it won’t form another head like the first one. Thank You very much ☺️🍀

This is so helpful and calming (instant subscribe). Is there a way to know if we are watering too little or too much?
@Liap2 ай бұрын
Hello. The best way is to check the soil. Stick Your finger 4-5cm (2") into the soil and You can tell whether it is still moist or needs watering. Thank You very much, I am so happy You like the video ☺🍀

Enjoyed the video a lot of good information.But I didn't see anything in your comments or information to kind of step-by-step of what you used on top of the soil.I'd like a little bit more cause.I'm getting ready to plant some lettuce now.And i'm a new gardener

Hello. I don't like to overcrowd videos with text. If there is anything You miss and would like to know, feel free to use comment section, as You did. Sometimes it takes me long, but I am trying to respond. I used spruce shavings as mulch. Is there anything else You would like to know and is not in the video? Thank You very much ☺🌱🍀

Hello. Head lettuce varieties are grown for one harvest (mostly). If big enough part of the stem is left in the soil, it will grow some side shoots but it won’t grow another head like the first one. Thank You very much ☺️🍀

Love it but for about $4 you can get a big bag at Costco ready to wash and eat.

😅 I really think you are missing the point and why are you watching a gardening video if you think this, unless you are just a Costco fanatic.
@Billbobaker26 күн бұрын
@@renegleason5809 Sorry, I grow a very large garden, onions, tomatoes, cukes, corn, blueberries...long list but slugs and snails wipe out my every attempt at natural growing lettuce. So it's Costco for me in that item.

What did you do with the early leaves that you trimmed off? were those edible or did you just do that to tidy them up for harvest?
@Liap8 күн бұрын
Hello. I sorted them out, most of them were perfectly edible, som the very bottom ones were of lower quality.
@rebeccamunene5000Ай бұрын
So in shot it takes 3months and half to harvest
@moot59Ай бұрын
Nice video, what type of soil do you use? Also do you water the leaves or water the soil directly?
@LiapАй бұрын
The soil was mostly compost (with some garden lime, wood ash or/and coffee grounds). I am trying to water the soil, but the rain doesn't care about that🙂 Thank You very much ☺
@jackelinea.62022 ай бұрын
Can you tell me please how much water and frequency?
@Liap2 ай бұрын
Hello. Well can be very tricky to say generally, so I'd rather recomment You to check the soil. But lettuce has quite shallow root system, so it is better to water it more frequently (every other day, maybe even daily in the stage of head forming)
@Dayan2420 күн бұрын
Do the roots regrow, allowing for multiple harvests, or can they be harvested just once?”
@Liap20 күн бұрын
The stems will grow some side shoots if You let big enough piece of them in the soil. But they won't form second head like the first one.
@ralisa002 ай бұрын
How often did you water your lettuce plants and do they like full sun or partial shade
@LiapАй бұрын
Hello. After transplant roughly twice a week. Once they started to form heads it increased up to every other day (or even daily on clear sky days) few weeks before harvest.
@LiapАй бұрын
They can be grown in full sun in cool weather, but when the temperatures rise they will appreciate some afternoon shade.

I just started my romaine, can you possibly give the % of the bone meal, garden lime, etc when you repotted? Thank you :)
@Liap13 күн бұрын
Hello, it’s just a handful of each. The main and the most important part is the compost.

Will the stumps grow again, or start again?
@LiapАй бұрын
They may grow some side shoots, if You let enough of them in the soil, but it is not going to form the head like the first one.
