There are several varieties of romaine lettuce, some of them grows smaller and take less time to mature, some of them grow bigger with more time required to fully develop head. Thank You very much ☺🍀

Does the spruce shavings keep slugs away? Do you pull out the rooted part after harvest OR will the Romaine re-grow another head? Thank you for your video.
@Liap
@Liap 26 күн бұрын
Hello. Well I would say it discourages slugs to move on them. As they need moisture to move and the shavings dry out pretty fast on the top. They don’t like dry and rough surfaces. Yes I pulled it out. It will grow some side shoots if You let big enough stem in the soil, but it won’t form another head like the first one. Thank You very much ☺️🍀

@Liap
@Liap 2 ай бұрын
Hello. The best way is to check the soil. Stick Your finger 4-5cm (2") into the soil and You can tell whether it is still moist or needs watering. Thank You very much, I am so happy You like the video ☺🍀

Hello. I don't like to overcrowd videos with text. If there is anything You miss and would like to know, feel free to use comment section, as You did. Sometimes it takes me long, but I am trying to respond. I used spruce shavings as mulch. Is there anything else You would like to know and is not in the video? Thank You very much ☺🌱🍀

Hello. Head lettuce varieties are grown for one harvest (mostly). If big enough part of the stem is left in the soil, it will grow some side shoots but it won’t grow another head like the first one. Thank You very much ☺️🍀

Nice video, what type of soil do you use? Also do you water the leaves or water the soil directly?

The soil was mostly compost (with some garden lime, wood ash or/and coffee grounds). I am trying to water the soil, but the rain doesn't care about that🙂 Thank You very much ☺

Can you tell me please how much water and frequency?
@Liap
@Liap 2 ай бұрын
Hello. Well can be very tricky to say generally, so I'd rather recomment You to check the soil. But lettuce has quite shallow root system, so it is better to water it more frequently (every other day, maybe even daily in the stage of head forming)
@Dayan24
@Dayan24 20 күн бұрын
Do the roots regrow, allowing for multiple harvests, or can they be harvested just once?”
@Liap
@Liap 20 күн бұрын
The stems will grow some side shoots if You let big enough piece of them in the soil. But they won't form second head like the first one.

How often did you water your lettuce plants and do they like full sun or partial shade
@Liap

Hello. After transplant roughly twice a week. Once they started to form heads it increased up to every other day (or even daily on clear sky days) few weeks before harvest.

They can be grown in full sun in cool weather, but when the temperatures rise they will appreciate some afternoon shade.
