Saffron Love Cold and dry weather Too much water will damage the saffron bulbs or saffron flowers wouldn't bloom

In Iran We Mostly Grow Saffron in Cold and Freezing Deserts and they blooming In autumn before frost

There are two that edible for sure just one is useful this one Crocus sativus the other one as far i know not edible, you need to check by cultivar maybe you'll get more information

Natural not at all and if you grow it in a cold place it can survive but until hardiness zone 6 if i'm not mistaken write now i grow it because it need at least cool winter i heard that people with hotter winter use refrigerators

It actually as i understand from from a Mediterranean area it mean cool winter no need for cold, i have here hardiness zone of 10b to 11a depend the year, and dry warm summer and it's planted in the autumn because this is the beginning of the rains so the soil moist and it's cool weather like in the night 15-20 and the day 20-30, so it's not that cold but in the winter will be colder

@kotugirl Weerasekarethis year was cold year hardiness zone 10b last year was 11a becouse it was hot winter, it's matter for blueberry, last year i barely had flowers and fruits and this year i have so much flowers and will have more fruits, it's effect also the flavor of the kale and colard, now how it's effect on saffron not much unless like last year i had short winter and effect on the blooming in bad way and also if i have crazy winter like this year the flowers bloom and i had strong hail in the autumn when it's started to bloom (i protect the flowers)

Thank you for this informative video ! I have a question if you don't mind.. I want to grow saffron but what type of soil ia good for growing the bulbs ? is compost soil good or peat moos soil ? how can i water the bulbs ? how many times a week. thank you

mix soil that won't be acid can be peat mos with perlite or vermicolite and add some compost (all depend in the kind of compst that you have, i put water small amount every day, and it's well drained soil it's automatic watering system, so it's not the same as do it by hand, the season of planting is very important also

Also, when is the time of planting saffron ? I will buy the bulbs online can I plant them directly or should I wait to a certain point of time ? Thank you

In order to bloom, you need little bit cold and winter, season it's in the autumn, what is the temperature in the winter in your location

The temperature in Winter could be between 10-15 fahrenheit sometimes. However, now we are heading toward the summer as the bulbs need one months or more to reach me, so can I plant them in summer ? Thank you

I have order crocus sativus saffron bulb and region (Kolkata, India) where i stay is usually hot but through the end of November till January temperature range is around 11-26 degree Celsius in order to quicken the process can i chill these bulbs just like hyacinth and tulip in refrigerator for 4-6 weeks and then plant it when winter has set in?

here we plant it in the autumn mostly but it's possible to plant it in the spring and i don't know from which country and what climate you are, now it's end of the winter spring and the bulb go to sleep i mean the leaves become yellow and i take the bulb outside of the soil

There are many kinds of crocus and not all have usable stamen. Be sure to look for the named saffron crocus for spice

So if you buy bulbs it's taks few day to month i fyou plant it in the right time, from seeds can take a while (2-4 years) depend the develop of the bulb
