Great-grandma had a plastic compost container that she used for years. She gave it me use. I had a had time keeping its round. Because you have to either wire it close or something. So now I use it's keep dogs from digging under storage building.

I remember the video of Gary making these wire compost bins, but had forgotten about it, so thank you for the reminder. I have several old tomato plant cages made from the same wire. I need to make me some compost bins with them. That's some beautiful Swiss chard. I don't guess that I have ever eaten it. ❤😊😊❤

This is the simple wire compost basket Gary put everywhere, I did not get to use the soil, as it grew on its own 😊 Thanks

I'm thinking of planting a little fig tree in the wire compost bin where it's too hard to dig right now. I'm in high desert near Prescott AZ. Or maybe in the chicken run - the cage would protect from the chickens and I could put old coop bedding into it.

What a fantastic idea! I have a corner in my yard that every year is overgrown with wild flowers and weeds. I should just remove them, build these cages, and use the yard waste to fill the cages. This is so economical and smart! Thank you for sharing, Robbie 💕

What’s cool about this is you get a built in fence from the wire after the plant matter condenses to soil!

I’ve seen this video of Gary doing the chicken wire with cardboard and I wish I can do it but my husband don’t want the front of the house to be trash looking cuz I don’t have space in the backyard it’s all cement from the big pool. 😔🤦🏻‍♀️ I wanted to make one but I think I can do it when I get a chance to clean the raised flower bed but we will see how it goes, thanks Gary your brilliant work and support for new gardeners like me! 😊👩‍🌾♥️👍 take care you guys it’s getting hot here zone 9

So grow something pretty up the outside of the wire. Nasturtiums grow fast and are pretty.

You could use the tan paper that comes in rolls from your hardware store or the tan paper that is used to mail packages to line wire.

If you don't have cardboard you can use old strips of carpet. You could also use the paper bags that are sold for yard waste, at Lowes or other hardware stores. You can just fill the bags and let them sit on the ground but if you water them or leave them in rain and snow the bottoms will break down way before the sides do.

The pest pressure for me is INSANE. I don't just fight rabbits and chipmunks. I fight deer, raccoons, birds, japanese beetles, skunks, possums, starlings, and sparrows. I just put high fence around my garden just to get seedlings to even survive.

You could also compost in cardboard boxes. So what is the difference between this and what you grew in boxes last year? Just the wire around it. And this is still early summer. Did the boxes dry out too fast? Won't this dry out soon? Maybe if your boxes were wrapped in wire they would have lasted longer. Especially if they were wrapped in plastic bags.
