I love the 4th generation Asian-American and adoptee aspects. Very interesting. Growing up in a White-American family, we seriously ate garlic bread for every dinner. Garlic bread is life.

Growing up Asian, I was told I can't jiggle my leg while I'm sitting cuz then I'll go broke cuz all the change will jiggle out of my pocket. #gg #fml #cantdothestankyleg

I've had at least one pimple on my face every single day for the past 7 years. I'm clean and hygienic, I exercise regularly, I don't eat too unhealthy, I change my pillow cases every night, I've been to a dermatologist... So the only answer is that my future significant other must not have eaten her rice. :( and I'm not joking about the 7years.. It sucks :(

I am half African American and half Japanese. I was raised by my Japanese mom. I can relate to a lot of this. My mom used to tell me that her dad said that a farmer worked very hard to produce every grain of rice so out of respect, you must eat every grain of rice. We were and still are a no shoe household. When going to a Caucasian friend's house, it was strange to keep my shoes on. I also got disciplined. My mom learned from my African American grandma some ways to discipline on top of her own disciplinary actions. I got disciplined with a spatula, belt, shoe, rice paddle, the thing that helps you put on shoes, etc. I also got the soap in the mouth for cursing. And last but not least, I did a few extracurricular activities. I did piano, flute, swimming, after school Japanese language learning classes. I love this segment you guys do! Wong Fu for life!

I totally agree. Being born Chinese, I get mad when people say that they wanna eat Chinese food and it's Panda. Not even one of those legit sit down Chinese restaurants where you eat family style. I do admit I eat Panda, sometimes when I'm at school and idk what I wanna eat, I'll just have it. But some people around this world, maybe just some ignorant white people, don't realize that this is not what we eat everyday. To me Panda is like fast food Chinese American food. We don't eat orange chicken all day, and orange chicken is brown with orange flavor, not orange itself, for example. I remember I was eating Panda somewhere and I overheard a white guy say this was the best Chinese food he ever had. I was so shocked. But idc if people eat it, I just want them to be aware and know that this isn't true to what actual Chinese people eat at home. Like Japanese people don't eat sushi all the time. Sorry it sounds like a rant lol xD

It's quite strange listening to all this when I'm from Singapore. Everything your saying is something so normal for us that we don't notice it. It's really fascinating how certain Asian American culture is so scrutinized and analyzed when it's just "life" for me and how other aspects of your life seems so American to me. 真的很喜欢这个节目！

Im mad i just watched this video hella late...but my favorite part is the meatloaf thing. Im Samoan and pops was in the military so my first time eating meatloaf was when I was in high school for school lunch. I was so fascinated cuz I only seen kids on tv shows complain about it. We did not eat a lot of American food growing up either. Samoan/Polynesian food all the time which, while growing up in Texas was different, but being older now I totally appreciate it.

The best part of experiencing what Wong Fu Productions has to offer is that I don't fall into the Asian portion of their fan base because I am white. It was quite interesting to hear all these stereotypical Asian versus American comparisons. By the way, I watched Everything Before Us a few nights ago and I absolutely loved it. You guys have a talent for pulling out the emotions from the viewers to get the most out of your material. It's was funny to see an article today about a new app coming out soon called Peeple which allows people to rate other people based on different categories. It made me think of how you guys brought a scenario like that to life and how it affected different characters in their lives'.

Never really thought of the moment when Phil got hit by his parents when he was a child haha...but it's just so TRUE LOL!!!

I didn't hear about the rice and pimple thing personally from my parents. But I remember reading about it from The Joy Luck Club--- one of my favorite and must-read books.

You guys are soo cool! It's great learning about the Asian culture from you guys. There aren't many Asians from were I'm from, Colombia, but it's funny to see how different cultures can be very similar. Latinos are also known for keeping the plastic wrap on electronics, sofa, etc. And we also eat lots of rice. At least in Colombia we do. It's not lunch if it doesn't have rice! Discipline is also pretty much how Christine described it...🙊😂😂

I can relate so much to this!! I've always ate rice during lunch time, and I didn't eat my first peanut butter and jelly sandwich until I was 15!

I think about the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" were as a child the woman wanted to have a sandwich on Wonder Bread, but had Moussacka instead. My mother is filipina and wanted to give me hard boiled eggs, fish something or cold chicken, and carrot sticks. If she made a sandwich it had to have a egg in it. It was a secret from my peers that I loved smoked/dried sardines, or have to urge to eat with my hands. Lol!

this is the episode that i wanted them to keep on comparing their experiences! haha

Watching this video was very interesting being from Canada, because of the difference in Canada and America lifestyle. For example in Canada you defiantly take off your shoes when you enter a house, or how the large majority of people don't have the certain foods for certain days (ex taco Tuesdays). Another two and I don't know if these goes for everyone but I have never had meat loaf and my family only eats bread at dinner for special occasions.

You guys should have Korean food for the next Lunch Break! The extracurriculars part is 100% true for Indian parents as well. I was in Kumon, did gymnastics, ran cross country, played volleyball and tennis. Played the violin and piano. Played in chess tournaments. Fuck, it was difficult.

as a half English half French Canadian my entire family takes off their shoes in the house... (sometimes have shoes to just wear inside or slippers) unless just going to grab something quickly and you have absolutely zero mud or dirt on them. also we have potatoes with practically every meal, unless we are having pasta (which we then also have bread on the side) or rice!

When Dan talked about selling sandwiches my mind went immediately went to the sandwich-obsessed alien from "Lilo and Stitch" haha.

Reminds me of my childhood! But only first generation for me, but growing up in Hungary while attending the American school! It gets a bit complicated ;)

Watching this reminded me when my parents put me in a asian tutoring center, it was hell. Every kid was stuck in that tutoring center for 4-6 hours just doing work because everything had to be correct and written neatly. If you had ONE mistake or your hand writing was sloppy we would get yelled at and told to fix all mistakes :| Was in there for 4 years and I manage to see 10 small kids cry.. So sad! D:

I'm adopted too, but my mother is the white tiger mom. She lived in Taiwan for about two years and brought the culture back with her. We eat a lot of Americanised Asian foods and she tried to get me speaking Mandarin. Key word, tired. She's definitely not a Chinese mother but she's as close as a white mom could get.

half asian but my sister and i lived with our dad (white)... yet we went to sylvan (like kumon), math tutoring, ballet, tae kwon do, gymnastics, cello, and violin for me, and the flute for her. then he also tried to get us to learn piano on the side. and i don't remember a thing from it all.... @-@ well, okay, maybe one violin song.... it's funny bc you mention the taking off the shoes thing, and i was about to retort "oh, i took off my shoes but it was at my dad's place" and then i just realized whenever i went to my grandparents on my dad's side no one ever had to take off their shoes. we also stored plastic bags from shopping and other things. guess my mum actually did rub off on my dad a bit, haha.

YAASSS PANDA EXPRESS 🙈 being Chinese I feel ashamed but I love it! I was put in lots of sports and was taught piano. But despite all that, I was hit but clothes hangers and my parents would go to Home Depot and buy thin and thick sticks to punish me. Oh being Chinese, but you really do get disciplined. the lunch break is a great series. before I make my comment, I want to say how much I love wongfu. Phil and I are about the same age and I started watching their videos since 2007 which was the year that I graduated from college. so I am big fan. however, I wish there were a variety of asian people. a lot of the asian people that you do have are mostly east asians. southeast Asians definitely have more different experiences. I never knew about kumon, or played an instrument also most of the asian kids that I knew had brown skin (like myself). I get it when you are trying to say who is the most asian and I know what you mean, but different regions asian have different experiences from each other. for example, east asians (Chinese, Koreans and Japanese) tend to be assimilated than Southeast Asians (Cambodian, Laotian, Hmong, Lu-Mienh). Or that Filipinos also have different cultural experiences as some of their traditions tend to have similarities as people from Spanish speaking backgrounds. I guess my point is that I wish to see more Southeast Asians and South Asians in your videos.i hope my comment could help add some additional value to the types of video you show. still a big fan and subscribed to KZfaq red because of you series! 😃😃😃

I have 3 adopted cousins. . . But due to some sad situations my parents pretty much took over the parent roles for them so we are like siblings. . . Sometimes we forget, I'll say things like, "you need to be careful, because you know grandpa and dad have high cholesterol... Ah, wait... Well, you know regardless, you need to take care and eat right, ok!?" My family is a melting pot of ethnicities and none of us really look alike but we share the same humor and family mannerism. I took Spanish because that's all that was offered in school but I grew up hanging around a lot Asians so I had people trying to teach me Japanese and Chinese as a kid, and now I am learning Korean. I found Dan's story fascinating. None of my adopted family were interested in finding their birth parents for a long time, but one recently started looking for his birth mom.

I just realized I've never had meatloaf either! I've also never had Panda Express because lately I've been having not so great experiences with Chinese American food, and my partner had a terrible experience with it that caused him to be sick for a week! Eck! Anyways, it was interesting just to see how we pretty much have all the same experiences in the 'more Asian' side and the perspectives of Taylor and Dan is well appreciated. Now I'm curious on how Angelina and Brad's child is going to grow up.

When I was in the 5th grade, I brought an igloo cooler too! I had gogurt, congee, and Mac and cheese because I just got braces at the time! I was the weird one at lunch for two whole weeks.

OMG! I grandma used to tell me about the rice myth...growing up, I never left a grain of rice in my plate or bowl, lol! Until this day, my friends still remember how I always ate all my food when eating out with them.

Lol I would run away crying from my mum whenever she took out the bamboo cane. And for running away she would hit me an extra time. I used to try to hide the canes just so when I made her mad she wouldn't be able to find the canes. XD

I'm a 4th generation Asian-American too! I would say for the most part, my family still follows a lot of asian traditions. But at the same time its kinda weird because I actually know more Japanese than my parents lol.
