I got a decent pc but the 2.5 version of dcs is very laggy. But since I didn't want to give up, I installed in 1.5 version and it was playable. So recently I bought the F-15C eagle for dcs world and I play with keyboard. It's playable and enjoyable. If you don't give up, it's possible.

Not everyone got the best pc, i can afford it but for me its a hobby, not sure if i want to spend so much money on a good pc when i dont even spend so much time on it.

Hey GS, huge fan here, you're videos are what got me into DCS in the first place as a matter of fact. I've been loving this Air Domination series of videos you're doing, but I personally feel that doing it with F-16s or F-18s and their AMRAAMs isn't, atleast for me, as exciting to watch or even learn from. So I want to give you a challenge, or an Idea, whatever you wanna call it. Do an air domination video, with the Mirage. Now that would be a treat to watch, if you can pull it off ofc. ;)

GS, you are displaying the importance of energy management and the F-16 has oodles of it. Are you knowledgeable on the F-104 and its energy performance numbers? I've added two links that will make your head spin. After you read these, imagine if the F-104 had the AMRAAM. What do you think the advantage would be firing an AIM-120C from 70,000+ ft and M2.4? My father flew the CF-104, class of 1969, out of CFB Cold Lake. I was born on the base. On a -40C day he would show the student pilots a max performance climb. In the two seat CF-104D, with tip tanks, they would reach 40,000 ft in 90 seconds. This is not a zoom climb. They would nose over and level off at 40,000ft. Now, this was with the less powerful J79 and not the -19 in the articles. Thanks to the turbojet's efficiency at high altitude and high speed, the -19 104 cruised at 73,000 ft using 100 lbs a minute. This is FAR superior than an F-16 cruising subsonic at 35,000 ft. If the 104 ever comes to DSC it will not have the 120 BUT, it will have the Sparrow, and can we guess what an AIM-7 launch, 70,000+ ft, Mach 2.0+ will do for air superiority? No wonder. GS is in full AB most of the time. Look at the fuel flow... F-16 has 7000 pounds of internal fuel, 12000 pounds with two 370 gal. tanks.

Given a weakness of the F-16 is its short range, can you try attacking with drop tanks on to extend your time in combat? As you can attain Mach 1+ with tanks it might work, albeit at the cost of lowering the effectiveness of your initial attack.

I agree the Viper is awesome and its power is eyewatering. But once again you are overspeeding the jet and the tanks. You now actually were going faster than 900KIAS. The limit is 800 KIAS for the canopy. Max speed with 2 wingtanks is even quite a bit lower at 600 KIAS or mach 1.6.

Hi GS, looking at that F-15 firing that AMRAAM at you that fell short, just before you got the Harrier, i was wondering if that had been with an F-14 shooting a Phoenix at 6 Miles, even with you flying at M1.3 and accelerating, could the Phoenix get you? Would be a cool thing to test, how capable some missiles are to chase a plane that's running away, and which firing parameters can work better.

I eat Vipers for breakfast and Jeff’s for lunch in the Hornet. Sukhoi’s and Migs are nice snacks to munch on in between meals too. All this eating has made the K side of my KD severely overweight though.

Would be excellent to fly the F-16 and the F-15 back to back using same tactics see the performance differences/similarities. Seems like the F-16 is THE energy monster in DCS now, overtaking the Eagle. Then fly the F-14 and compare again.

I've had a bunch of dud Amraam hits like that while flying Flankers. Sometimes 2 per flight. It's a little annoying, but it's definitely not just the F16. Thinking poor network state replication? Wouldn't be surprised if some of that code is from 2005.

Apparently in the F-16 having missiles on the wingtips improves the wing's aerodynamic performance. Also the reason why they always put AMRAAMs on the tips and not the smaller Sidewinders.

@@kram2k It's not about aerodynamics, it's about weight. The added weight at the tips helps to suppress wing flutter.

Please help me understand this. I'm looking at the HUD and listening to GS and I see and hear the speed Mach 1.4, but the left column on the HUD shows 515 (if this is a speed column, then it's 515kts I assume. But Google unit converter says that Mach 1.4 is 933knots. What am I missing or understanding wrong? I'm looking at 3:03 on the timeline of the video - speed dial has it's needle on Mach 1.4 and about 575knots when the speed column on the HUD shows 515...I'm clearly reading something wrong :(

Mach speed is based on temperature, temperature changes at altitude, so at low altitudes it would probably be 933

You are confusing true airspeed with indicated airspeed. At sea level they are the same but at altitude they are very different (by design). Mach 1.4 at 29 kft is 827 KTAS, but only 587 KCAS (CAS - calibrated airspeed is essentially the same as indicated airspeed, minus instrument errors).

Thanks a lot. So if I understand correctly Mach speed shows the speed relative to the sound speed in the current air conditions not just another unit to represent the distance flown over a period in time.

@@XfilerD Yes, plus indicated airspeed shows approximately the speed that the aircraft "feels" aerodynamically. i.e. an IAS of 100 kts means that no matter the altitude, the lift and drag of the aircraft are the same as if it was flying at approximately 100 kts TAS at sea level. For bonus points, I say approximately because IAS is a bit different to EAS - equivalent airspeed.

Pwesnal experience from real-world: Most fool-proof way to 'dodge' AMRAAMs fired by Vipers is to dive and dive fast. The false target capability of El-8222WB helps too if you or your wingman has one.

At 8:08 you mention that you don't advise "diving in" on the bandit from high altitude. I am curious why this is considered a bad idea? Just because you are then out of position for the next fight? I'm a noob tryna learn, thx.

Because you're closing in you're giving the bandit a chance to take a shot at you and actually kill you while you could turn away and make yourself basically immune to any missile he can fire at you.

Loving the PVP content lately, can you TID/VID your targets please for a more realistic Interception? I know the Targeting pod is painful to handle for Air-to-Air because of its bugginess but it would add-up on SA and realism. Knowing your enemy also means you know his weapons and such his WEZ. A MiG-29 spike on RWR doesn't mean its a MiG-29 :)
