Hey Danny. Thank you for your underserving praise in this video. I do apologize for my initial heated response in the comments - really showed my age there. I do get very passionate at times. I believe there are many others more qualified to review your product on this platform but I am excited with my decision to buy the encores and happy that Frederick did a wonderful job on them. Can't wait to take them for a spin, measure them at the NRC and do some blind tests !

Looking forward to your head to head thoughts on CSS Criton 1TDX -vs- X-LS Encore. Then does either surpass your Sonus Faber Electa Amator III. Amazing level these kit speakers have achieved. For a fraction of the price. Danny well representing us bang for the buck guy's. Time for a trip to Texas, Jay. Just did a pair of the 8TC cable kit...(in my Rig) Soundstage was always well defined, now it has expanded and is now as large as the 96 inch screen the system flank's. These cables opened everything up...now the soundstage extends beyond the speakers...just magical. Sincere TY to Danny for definitely leveling up my system, for what $220.00. Officially on my Christmas list. Going to let them burn it for a hundred hours or so then I'll do a more detailed review for Danny's site. Musical cues (reflections from parts of the room I have never heard before) Just outstanding. Learn everything you can from him. I'm going to. Take care Jay.

Don't forget before reviewing them: _"Copper foil caps need 400 hours of burn-in, the rest of the parts 200h, and the cable 200 hours"_ It is absolutely paramount !

I received my XLS Encore kit yesterday. Thank you very much Danny. I am one who ordered in November 2021. The Tigerwood cabinets have been ready and waiting. I'll get the crossovers built, mount the drivers, and start the break in process. I ordered all the upgrades so I am excited to hear the results. I appreciate you sticking to your guns and going the extra mile to ensure we hear the Encores the way they are intended to be heard. I have listened to Jay's channel numerous times and enjoy his feedback on various components. It will be interesting to see what Jay has to say about the Encores. Obviously it won't influence my opinion on the Encores but interesting none the less.

And a new amp solved all the problems I had with my hoary old Cornwalls. Vastly improved system, but Loving Wife is unable to share my enthusiasm. She fails to understand... STILL lusting after your open baffle big guns, so there is hope yet... Excellent video, hope springs anew! You really are the man, I was distracted, a little, by others' misguided views of your gospel , but now I see I was right about you all along! Don't ever change, Danny! One of the upsides of the shortages we're seeing is that there are more and more small manufacturing businesses in the US that are growing. Many of the machine shops that were hobby shops are going into production, fabrications shops are growing. I really like seeing this. I think it's a healthy boost for the economy. It's true that the products will cost more than the cheap Chinese products where the volumes are diminishing along with some of the quality. It's true that China has been refining it's processes over the years, but it seems that in the last several years that the quality trend has been reversing for some products while getting better for others. I don't even want to get into the problem of fuel costs which are causing greater supply issues and other things that are getting out of hand due to inflation.

I viewed Jay's review and was dissappointed with his experience in quality and how that applies to and results in product excellence. I did not see data backing his positions. If I may be sold bold I would recommend Jay do some armchair reading of Deming on the finer aspects of quality in general. Deming was and still is the pillar of product quality. I was and still am a staunch disciple of Deming. I am a difficult at best client of Richie, but a true believer as Danny will absolutely not budge on quality. He is taking agressive steps to mitigate any risk of quality to his flagship. This I admire greatly. I am still waiting on my X LS kit however, let me say that if I have to wait another six months for the quality, it will be well worth it. Danny is spot on the right track and I anxiously await what Jay has to say once he delves into the X LS. “Without data, you're just another person with an opinion.” ... W. Edward Deming.

I have waited for the perfect tweeter since I was a teenager in the eighties. Sadly I am still waiting 😖 what for me would be the perfect tweeter would be a tweeter which can be safely crossed over to the bass/midrange around 1200 Hz without a waveguide. A wide and completely even transition in regards to dispersion can be accomplished at such a low crossover frequency but obviously puts a lot of stress on the tweeter. So a tweeter with a magnetic system to end all magnetic systems, which can tolerate such a low crossover frequency is my dream tweeter in my dream speaker. The original Avalon Eclipse and Avatar had such a low crossover frequency but couldn’t play very loud so sadly ran into criticism. Something I always found unjustified because they could still play substantially louder than a electrostatic speakers. I truly wish we one day will get a tweeter which will allow us such a transition while still being able to sustain elevated but not ludicrous spl. Thanks for your informative videos.
@missing11022 жыл бұрын
I have not seen a perfect tweeter yet. I have an interesting speaker collection over the years and the tweeter/wave guide has not changed in any significant way for a long time. I am a fan of a coaxial design. I like the directivity more than a traditional design
@RennieAsh2 жыл бұрын
Bliesma t34 is pretty good. Not sure you'll get the dispersion though unless there's some super 3/4" tweeter :)
@klaushaunstrupchristensen72522 жыл бұрын
@@RennieAsh Yes everything above 8 kHz will obviously be less than ideally dispersed with an 1 inch tweeter. My ideal two way system would use a 6 inch bass mid driver up to 1.2 kHz and a 1 inch driver above. My ideal 3 way speaker would use a 8 inch driver to 700Hz and a 2 inch driver from there up to 3,5 kHz and a 3/4 inch driver from there and above. All in a gently curved wide baffle. Such designs don’t really exist nowadays. AR made something a bit like this in the seventies but they were lacking in power handling, parts quality and had a somewhat downslopes frequency response. So…..

@grumpy94782 жыл бұрын
Danny, I'm curious about the new tweeters inconsistent unit-to-unit response measurements. I assume you don't want to hand tune crossovers forever. Is your supplier chasing that down? Have you isolated the likely cause? Will you ship-back some shop queens for reference at final QC stage? Having been in the biz yrs ago, these kinda issues can be tricky to run down & act-upon while also moving inventory in challenging times. By the way, it strikes me it's hard for consumers to fully appreciate the value of working w/ experts (esp product developers) having decades of experience in all aspect of high end audio vs those who aren't quite there yet.

I wonder whether calling out reviewers applies to Amir from ASR, as a long term owner of a Clio setup myself, I'd probably swap a kidney for access to Klippel NFS, but irrespective of that, I find it hard to fault Amir's methodology. According to his recently posted review featuring the LGK, GR wasn't looking forward to offering him the opportunity. Jay's rant, in which he expressed reservations, has also disappeared from the comment section. For all it matters, I often concur with many observations Danny makes, however the post where mutual coupling between inductors is conflated with some psedo science as an explanation for all that's evil in a piece of wire is simply shocking and don't even get me started on cable supports. All of it is bit concerning, to be honest.
@dannyrichie97432 жыл бұрын
Amir is not consider a reviewer by the audio community. He doesn't even have a real listening room and doesn't even listen to a pair of speakers that he is "reviewing". What type of measuring system you use is nowhere near as important as knowing how to use it. Also, audible effects of wire and even cable risers are easy to demonstrate.
@kongwee19782 жыл бұрын
Plus he has high end Reveal and ML and claim not much differences. Flat respond and low distortion, you pass.
@paulb46612 жыл бұрын
@@dannyrichie9743 Hi Danny, thank you for your reply. Whether differences between cables are audible is not what concerns me, what struck a chord was using measurements of mutually coupled inductors to prove audibility of these. All it shows is the importance of keeping inductors spaced and at right angles, not much else. Why not use actual cables instead - we know the answer, don't we? Actually, at that level the impact internally propagating soundwaves and vibrations have on microphonic crossover components is much more detrimental. In a sense, any ordinary lamp cord is orders of magnitude better when it comes to fidelity, than the most advanced speaker in the World, for one, it is perfectly capable of reproducing a squarewave and nowhere near 0.2 - 20% THD figures. By the same token, all it takes is to look inside an amplifier to see the same precious signal leaving the source/emitter via 150-470mΩ non-inductive cement resistors, before heading down the tin plated copper trace to an inductor paralleled with a resistor, and finally entering ... the contacts of the relay next to its energized iron core solenoid. No special weave pattern, no exotic materials, no cable risers in a much more hostile environment and yet. Don't get me wrong, I like my speakers fast decaying & flat on-axis and understand listening environment adaptation matters just as much as the source itself, moreover, I actually do utilize solid silver in cotton twisted pair for HF drivers myself, but not because of inductor coupling.

Still have 3 days for the Stereophile Sept Issue deadline to include the Encore if you found an extra pair. Will be curious how the Encores compare with his CSS 1's he loved so much. Jay is young and needs some maturity to get to the next level but one thing I believe he does have going for him is his hearing.

I am not opposed to reviewers. My designs have been reviewed by every magazine online and in print and won awards from all of them. It is my desire to make the next generation of KZfaq reviewers better, and nothing more. Jay is one of the guys I am pulling for and I would do anything I can for him.

Well early on is a very bad indicator for the current quality of Jay's reviews. I like his content a lot. Just as I like this video too. No need to bitch, specially not if you have to pull in early content in order to underpin your statement.

@@boborman5537 Good for you as all copper cable will sound the same to you. These is not much I could say. For I can tell the difference immediately if I buy a cable and test the cable on spot for defects. Openness, smoothness, rhythm, dimension, tightness are different. Only the same is frequency response, the amount of high, mid, low gonna be the same. Good reputation shop don't even wanna sell you their "burn in" cable till it doesn't affect their sale being sold off.

So, Danny, First off nice to know Jay has backed off on that Elgatarian rant as it is an undue and disappointing attitude. That being said, very nice of you to be so considerate. Lastly, do you think at some point you will dip a toe into self powered Bluetooth speakers?

Serious question: is the effort to “throw shade” on others worth the views? No doubt it brings money but after seeing it on other KZfaq channels outside the audio world it makes me wonder how much is artificially created to drive views versus people working in a vacuum while still garnering an audience. It’s existed since forums and trolls got mandatory. Both parties welcome but leave some room for progress:)

I am not in this for KZfaq views. The discussion and what has actually come of my call out of the KZfaq reviewers has been very fruitful so far and even more is to come.
