Assuming the performance of one big fan is actually identical to that of two smaller fans, I still think I'd prefer the one larger fan if it means the console overall is quieter. I do think the PS5 is too large, but it's something I'd get over as soon as I have it in my home. Whereas the loud dual fans would bother me every time they run full blast. That said, if the two smaller fans were identically quiet as the one large one, sure, I'd pay a little more for a smaller console. Or, in theory, less for the Slim model a year or two down the line.

Two fans versus One Fan One big fan is more effective then two fans. So you probably only get two or three fans if a design has no space for a big fan. Why? Because even if they are the same model the fans will be slightly different and hence have slightly different efficiencies and performance. Meaning in short that there will be a difference in performance between the fans. And one will push the other or pull the other. It isn't a perfect situation for fans! You could go for a heart shaped double chamber design with two fans and hence two ways for cooling to go. But, again efficiencies and it makes it harder to design. In short, economical and effective wise there is little reason to use TWO fans. If you can use ONE And yes its size is all about cooling.
