The fact that even after she took the meds and had a clear mind, she still allowed that guy she was helping to live with her could mean she liked him, his company, and was honestly helping him in a tough situation. To imagine what he feels towards not even being able to protect the kind person that helped him out must be devastating! Thank you for the story.

Well it says she helped him out before her psychosis. Before covid her psychosis symptoms were very mild and this is when she helped the man then covid hit which led her to a psychosis episode. He could of paid her rent but if she owned the house outright some people aren’t in it for the money and just want to help someone out in a difficult situation. I’m sure he did try to pay her something. What an evil woman to do such a thing all because of greed.

Since she was an older woman, I'm sure that having David there was a big help. Sometimes we need help lifting things, reaching things, carrying things up or down stairs, & maybe he did cleaning & odd jobs around the house on his days off. He sounds like he was a good friend that genuinely cared about her and he was working to get back on his feet. I feel like the younger lady knew about that older lady's money from day one. She befriended her in order to tell her that story & knew she would probably offer her money. I think that when she was thinking clearly, she figured out that she had been scammed by that woman. It's extremely sad that anyone can take a life so easily. The fact that it's over money is disgusting!!! I guess that those sick people never watch crime stories bcuz they almost always get caught & go to prison for life.

@@Goldie789 She definitely premeditated the murder as well, she probably waited until David left for work, she brought 2 suitcases and a knife, and obviously cleaned up well enough that David and the cops didn’t realize there was a murder that same day.

okay real talk, i love the way you talk about mental illness. you don't just say "oh yeah, it's schizophrenia", you first introduce us to Deborah and who she is and how kind she is and everything, and then you explain that she was struggling with covid just like all of us were, and then you explain what she was diagnosed with, and what it's like, and what her symptoms were like. it's a very real, very human, way to talk about paranoid schizophrenia. every time you talk about different mental illnesses on this channel, i feel like i'm being reminded of the humanity we all share. hope that makes sense, but yeah. it's very different from a lot of other true crime channels, and i really appreciate it. thanks for doing such a careful job addressing these topics, Mr. Ballen. :)

What's the connection with so many people with mental disorders being overly religious?
@Dog-ru1rz
@Dog-ru1rz Жыл бұрын
@@vivalarazausarmyvet4453 I don't know if you are purposefully implying that you think people with mental disorders are stupid or weird, but this is the vibe that your comment gives. To answer your question, it is the desperation and fear. The two emotions that you commonly see in terminally/chronically ill people. Because it is harmless and uplifting to believe in a divine figure that is able to miraculously heal them or give them an eternal happiness. But it makes more sense with mentally ill people because others tend to stay away from them. They are less likely to be shown love and understanding, so they usually have no one to love back. This is why they result in giving all their love and devotion to something they can't communicate and hope that it understands them and loves them back. They are isolated, alienated, and often unable to find the right people to bond with. It's not like they believe in scientifically incorrect things and conspiracies because they are sick or crazy. Sometimes they have no choice. Like the poor lady in this story who went as far as allowing strangers to live rent free with her and accepting to give hundreds of dollars to a murderous "friend" who is almost half her age, just to not be alone.

True that. That reminds me of the Bible verse: To be sure, there is great gain in godly devotion along with contentment. 7 For we have brought nothing into the world, and neither can we carry anything out. 8 So, having food and clothing, we will be content with these things. 9 But those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge men into destruction and ruin. 10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains. Netflix follow a pattern of cancelling shows for no apparent reason even ones that are popular with fans and critics alike and seem to be generally doing well so why risk it for Mr B Like mid-season around series 3 or 4 leaving fans of that show not only confused but let down to a degree also - it's happened to so many shows I won't list them all but there was one recently that is notable as they changed the direction of the show so extremely that actor of the main character left causing a petition to be signed requesting Netflix to take him back on, I don't know who makes these types of decisions there but I would like to know, I'm not sure it's a person at this stage as there's never any explanation, maybe it's a bot or something, the choices they make about shows are often so nonsensical and unreasonable it defies logic

When they blocked truth, everyone should've seen. Tube did as designed, create fear. Debrah told Jemna she would pay for repairs. She was wrong to back out and leave Jemma with a destroyed house. Legally, Jemma had a lawsuit. Jemna did it wrong.

@@jeffcampbell2710 Unfortunately a lot of the strong connection to religion would have come from her illness to begin with. There's a link between schizophrenia and religion, and quite frankly handing out a quarter million dollars to someone you just met is very far from rational. Given her diagnosis it's reasonable to assume she could have made that 'wonderful Christian' gesture without her finances being able to bare it. Jemma didn't have a lawsuit, Jemma didn't have anything. She was handed her house and it sounds like she was unwilling to take care of it. Putting money aside to pay for maintenance is a really small ask if you literally have no mortgage on your dwelling, you could put in far less than a regular person would be expected to pay on their rent and you'd be completely fine. Even a half decent insurance policy would be enough for the kinds of issues the property was facing. She decided to coast off her generational success, until it fell apart, then she needed to leech from somewhere else. Her sense of entitlement was off the charts, likely due to how much was handed to her for free, coupled with church teachings it turned out to be quite a lethal combo for Deborah. Jemma is nothing but a stupid, lazy, entitled, delusional and a really sickening little grub. RIP Deborah

When I am having a psychotic episode, I don't have the ability to tell what is reality so I am vulnerable to be manipulated easily which has happened unfortunately multiple times with gaslighting being a major factor in those who have manipulated me. Sometimes you have to take a step back and assess, was Deborah in the right state of mind to make a decision to promise someone $200,000. Because during a psychotic episode for me before I was medicated at all, I raked over $15,000 in debt because my paranoia made me believe that those products I bought with loans was life or death. Now I have $15,000 debt I am still currently paying back which I ended up in a 6 month long depression after being medicated because of the guilt I felt for taking loans and buying products that I now realise I never needed in the first place. My great aunt was bipolar and schizophrenic. She could be very mean, but weirdly we always got along. I was one of few people she would listen to or take constructive criticism from. During her last few years, she had caregivers who would take advantage of her delusional state. They would stay there instead of getting their own apartments, drink on the job, take money from her, use her car, buy gifts for their kids. Luckily, all these people would be fired in one of her fits of rage but it still sickened me to know that there were so many people out there who would take advantage of a very impoverished and sick elderly woman for their own gain.

Sounds like she went to participate in religious ceremonies regularly (usually weekly). She couldn't possibly have been firing on all cylinders. We didn't hear much about her, so I can't say for sure, but I am guessing that something snapped in Gemma because she was relieved of her financial struggles, found a close friend and than all of it was taken away from her. It takes very little for 'normal person' to finally break.

@@angledbracketsarentallowed4790 I'm atheist and support stronger separation between our government and religious institutions, but I don't think someone being religious should be a red flag of any sort. @angledbracketsarentallowed4790

@@MM-jf1me Within my life time all 'large' wars excluding the recent one between Russia and Ukraine have been instigated by religious fanatics. That extremism bleeds out into tangentially related communities in the form of mass killings in places of worship. There are smaller scale examples that are quite easy to find where individual killings take place and the religious element takes the forefront. I'd argue that even in this video here, religion caused more harm than good - and a human death might have been avoided without it. To me homicide is the worst act humans can commit, anything to reduce the amount of homicide in the world I am all for. Religion to me is an easy target to this end, because it increases the homicide rates globally. I don't think the superfluous 'benefits' of religion like charity and 'sense of community' etc outweigh this tragedy. Especially when you consider the fact that there is no God or super natural 'deity' and these 'benefits' can and are also provided from secular sources... It's just not worth it, and people who subscribe to those ideologies should be treated differently.

I see what you’re trying to say and agree. Jemma had already been scammed once by her first contractor and lost the money to fix her house. She met Debrah at church and they hit it off well. And probably for the first time since the contracted scam, Jemma felt relief that god had led her to this woman and “Christian good moment”. And they had even texted a lot everyday getting to know another as friends. Then all of a sudden “ all that sympathy and help” was only caused because debrah was not mentally well? So being a jerk was her “ sane self”. The way she just crushed this woman’s hopes was just sadistic. She insulted and berated her leading up to the renovation dates. Then revealed she ain’t helping her at all and to just sell her house and start from scratch and figure it out all on her own and don’t call her til shes “ at her best”. And then ghosted her. So now she just got told by her newfound close friend all this after still living in a house that’s freezing with a hole in the roof. So not only did she lose the chance of fixing her house she lost a friend through a really tough time for her. So she tried desperately to save her home that meant a lot to her and was fully paid off ( which is a accomplishment on its own). She wrote this entire speech, went to her house finally had the chance to clear some things up about what happened. And was rejected before she even finished. Mind you Deborah probably never explained why she just became so hateful to her or gave a decent apology. Nor even offered a little bit of relief or even to help her sell her home or some type of plan B. she just shut her down and told her no. And you know what, you can only treat a desperate person like they are meaningless for so long before they snap. And Jemma had snapped. So uh yeah God sure did answer he sat back and watched Debrah’s choices and how she decided to handle things back fire on her.

I think there’s more going on with Gemma than losing her temper. Fine she snapped and belted poor Gemma. But…. why was she carrying a knife? And who goes straight from that to hacking someone’s head off? Sounds premeditated to me. We know she went there with the intent to get money. She took the knife cos she already planned to kill Debra and get her hands on her cash if Debra refused to fund her renovations. All I can say is little Miss ‘but I’m innocent’ is far more dangerous and must’ve had a damn good solicitor. In England the sentence is called a Tariff. Being Commonwealth ‘life’ is only 25yrs with the possibility of parole. So I am very pleased to hear the judge took into account how heinous the crime was and raised it to 34yrs. Side note: the Pommy cops often call the battering ram they use to force doors open ‘ the big red key!’ As they are often red. Or ‘the master key to every property in London!’ Hahaha

There was a Netflix series with a bunch of footage from London’s CCTV cameras. Most of it was just run of the mill crime, but there were some pretty funny things as well. Adrian from the coffee house has a wonderful way of making a visit to wherever the crime takes place sound like a fantastic idea. Mr Allen is the better story-teller, I gotta agree, but Adrian, the gentleman who does coffeehouse crime has a great style as well. Examples like I didn't knew she had a roommate and her schizophrenia had her writing letters to imaginary video people than Adrian mention she made tea for the Prime Minisiter and the Mayor of London! MrBallen did however fall short on not concluding what happened to the roomate and her house? I assumne since she's dead, the house got repossess and he had to move out.

I don't think it's a story of desperation. I think it's a story of a selfish person that doesn't manage their life well who expects someone to take care of them. Obviously this woman owed her nothing . She was being Kind. So you kill her and you make a fake will that makes you the beneficiary. This wasn't an act of desperation, this was an act of Narcissistic evil.

I feel horrible , how can someone take someone's life people are crazy she literally dragged the suitcase all over and still saying she did not kill her ! * The reason my mom tells me not to open the door for anyone is because my father was killed by his friends and now they are after us ! I like all the stories but I'm definitely partial to the paranormal ones.
