As you said to me in another comment on the bigger Grumman...you are lucky to have them both! I'm gonna try hard to resist the siren song of this little jewel...we shall see. At least living in the deep south I won't be tempted seeing too many if these 129's. Got my 17' Grumman ready to go now...but I'm taking the OT Pack solo canoe out this Saturday...so pumped for some early Spring fishing! Thanks for the work you put into these vids... great eye candy for when we can't go. 👊

Thanks Solo!! I appreciate you watching and I really appreciate your comments. Good luck this Saturday! Hope you get into some nice big ole prespawn bass. I'll be trout fishing for the next couple of weeks, waiting for water temps to rise (and shoreline ice to melt) before heading out on the water in the canoe/kayak in search of bass. I can't wait!

I've got a 19 foot square stern canoe manufactured by Grumman. Fantastic is all i can say. I need a new trailer for it though. My old one has seen it's last season I'm afraid. The canoe you have is perfect for those walk in lakes that are a mile or two off the road with no car access.

I also have a 15 foot Grumman that I bought on Craigslist a bunch of years ago. Great boat for the family and friends and if I had to guess, I bet it's well over 50 years old and still going strong. Very durable and well made canoes. And yes, the Solo us great for those hard to reach place. Light and easy to carry but still durable to be stored in the woodline behind the house.

Fishing Kayaks are awesome and super stable but they have their limitations especially when you consider the portability of the lightweight canoe. Great to have lots of options for the various places you fish. Nice job buddy. Good review.
@FitzYakin3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Don. I love my fishing kayaks but this canoe comes in handy for places where I have to climb over boulders, or down a steep hill to launch, where carrying a heavy kayak would be a super pain and where a kayak cart just wouldn't work. And I can store it out back in the woods all year with no worries of UV damage to the hull.

Yeah, I love the aluminum canoes PH. A little clanky but they're built to last a couple of lifetimes.
@casualcarolinafishing58353 жыл бұрын
It's a nice canoe. I never knew an aluminum canoe would be lighter than a plastic kayak. That's definitely a plus for certain circumstances.
@FitzYakin3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Bill, there are some short, small plastic sit-inside kayaks that I'm sure are lighter (just barley) but they don't track as well,, lack any real storage space and you definitely can't stand in them. And the majority of fishing specific kayaks are double hull sit-on-top style (great to fish out of) but most weigh between 70-90lbs.
@TheOutdoorCatch3 жыл бұрын
Good walk through Fitzy. I grew up canoeing with my dad and brother. Unfortunately my dad wasent into fishing so all we did was float down the river. I don't think you would want to do a strong hook set while standing. Splash!😂
@FitzYakin3 жыл бұрын
Its actually not too bad with a strong standing hook set Jake. You just need to be aware and the balance is definitely less forgiving than many of the sit-on-top fishing kayaks 🤣

Dude, I have a Bigfish 120 and is very stable like you said but I have to have a pickup or trailer to haul. I would love the smaller Grumman to get to some further places on the roof rack. I would go a ton more. Also, the heavy kayak is very slow for me and think the canoe would be much easier and faster to motor!! We do have a 16' square back Grumman that fishes 3 guys no problem but again so damn big. Nice review and I think Grumman is the best ever made
@FitzYakin3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Todd! Yeah, this is so nice to take out. I love my fishing kayaks but sometimes you just don't feel like loading/unloading them cause of the weight and size. Do you want more information on the 1350C?” I read somewhere too that someone contacted them a while back and they said to make it worth while for them they would need to do a production run of x number of boats and the payment would need to be in advance.

Man, that's too bad. I love my 129 Solo. It's a great grab and go boat and I love the aluminum hull cause I can store it outside and not have to worry about covering it up to protect it from the sun. There are some great plastic solo canoes out there but for me, I wanted the aluminum for it durability against sun damage. What a bummer.

Thanks Ashleigh. I only use a 2 bladed kayak paddle because that's what I'm used to as I mostly fish out of a kayak. But a one bladed canoe paddle would certainly work fine with this canoe.

It's a great canoe and I think you'll love it!! Thing I hate about aluminum canoes is they can get a lot of sunlight reflection off the bottom, sides.
@FitzYakin2 жыл бұрын
For sure. They have painted ones as an option, but that of course increases the cost. I've thought about painting mine myself, though I've read that painting aluminum is a bit of a tedious process. The noise they make is also a downer. But they sure are impervious to the elements such as sun when stored outside and that what I love about then. And they are relatively lightweight when compared to plastic canoes.
