@MJ Sinatra did more against racism than any other celebrity ever. Sammy davis is eternally grateful for all Frank did. Frank raised milliond in charity for kids in a world tour he also hated racism and wouldn't perform in places where the audiece was seperated. He also made a short mivie scene in the 40's (when no one did) saying everyone was the same and needed to be trated equally. Litterally go anywhere and inform yourself on all that Frank did. Please don't reply with an insult cause you probably will and look up things before claiming them

Frank Sinatra was the best man at Sammy's wedding to May. His article in Jet Magazine in 1958 - "The Way I Feel About Race Today" makes for a very positive stand on race relations, after even six decades. The Rat Pack played benefits for Martin Luther King Jnr in the very early 1960s. MLK apparently was reduced to tears by Frank's version of "Ol' Man River." When MLK was assassinated in 1968, Tina Sinatra said that was the only time she saw her father cry. "If you see your brother on his knees, why not give him a helping hand?" - Frank Sinatra. None of these men were angels, but the above statement still remains true.

@lindashelley3635
@lindashelley3635 4 жыл бұрын
bob wallace See, now I have never entirely believed that story. Sure, it may be that the ‘mob’ helped him out in the beginning, but surely it’s his millions of fans all over the world who actually bought his records and went to see his movies and shows that kept Sinatra a star for all those decades? And, in any case, it’s also been argued that many entertainers also ‘knew’ Mafia people simply because they owned most of the clubs (especially in places like Vegas and Atlantic City) where they performed.

@@lindashelley3635 Sam Giancana was a personal friend of Sinatra's. Frank introduced him to JFK, and ironically enough the guy that would kill him. Frank was in tight with the mafia from his earliest days to his last days. There are no "friends" of the mafia, you are either in tight and involved or you are not a friend. Frank made lots of money and certain shares would go to Giancana. It was just business among "friends". The only question is was Sinatra a "made man". He had the Italian qualifications and his partnership with the highest mob boss Giancana points to a yes.

There was a “tiki bar” on one of the piers in Galveston that dated from the post-Prohibition era and was very popular with the members of the Rat Pack. They had signed photos and photos taken in the bar of members of the Pack on the walls, both together and when they’d visited separately. I was fortunate enough to go there in 2005, shortly after my dad and stepmom moved down there. It was an interesting slice of “Americana”. Sadly the entire pier was destroyed in 2008 by Hurricane Ike and all of that memorabilia was lost to the Gulf of Mexico.

Did not have to come to the kitchen or sleep in separate hotels once he became a member of the Rat Pack. He changed that forever. Dean Martin was not a Hermit, and Frank Sinatra was absolutely not a draft Dodger, since he actually worked with the US so and there are several photographs online that you can see of him wearing an American soldiers uniform while traveling around the world and entertaining the troops. 4:14 - That part isn't quite true, both Dean and Frank were racialised for their Italian heritage and Sammy was like a brother to them. They were three outcasts, three friends who often joked about each other. They never meant anything of it though. Just good friends.

I agree. IR relationships were a taboo thing in the 1950s even though it occurred, many had to do it secretly. Sammy exclusively dated white women after his breakthrough in Ciro's in the early 50s. He HAD to hide it and would get mad if he was in the tabloid, the Confidential. Sure he dated black women, but he rather romanticize white women. Things were OVERTLY racist in those days.

Joey Bishop, was adored by Frank, yet Joey wanted little to do with being a "Rat Pack " member.. Sammy had Franks unwavering support when dealing with racism, and at least in Vegas, near as i recall, Frank demanded Sammy be allowed to come in the FRONT entrance to the Casino they were performing at, or, there would be no show.. Casino caved. Deano portrayed himself as a pure lush, and did drink, but, not nearly to the excess he portrayed, at least, not until he lost his Eldest Son, which by all accounts, he could never recover from.

He wasn't at all, stop buying into all of the fake stuff. I've been a rat pack fan all of my life and have watched their footage endlessly. The main three, Sammy, Frank, and Dean were always messing around on set and if you sit down long enough and watch the footage it's hilarious. Sammy even made jokes about his own race, they ribbed each other back and forth and countless times you can see Sammy doubling over with laughter. They adored each others company, the difference back then compared to now was that there was far less political correctness shit. Did bad things happen then too? Of course, good and bad stuff is written throughout human history, but the thing is back then these people felt comfortable joking around in each others company. People were happy, relaxed, enjoying life. Nowadays you only have to sneeze and someone's offended, this is one of the main reasons why so many people are down in the dumps or low now. We need to stop being so uptight and just laugh at things more.

Many didn't know Dean was only pretending to be hammered. It was part of the act. He learned a lot from Foster Brooks who turned it into an art form. Dean regularly would have Brooks on his variety show and celebrity roasts. Those were hilarious bits. Brooks actually gave up drinking in 1964. Someone bet him ten dollars he couldn't. He did. "At the time, I needed the $10."

My grandmother told me many years ago that the real truth behind Sammy Davis Junior losing his eye was because he was messing with Kim Novak. He was badly beaten up by the mob and that’s how he lost his eye. Death would have been the next step if Davis continued the relationship with Novak.The car accident was used as a reason for the lost of Davis eye.

@Mark James Frank did some awful things, and some of them he did to Sammy. He also did some good. A young girl in St. Louis had her eyes cut up by a burglar in 1965 when Frank was in the Lou for a performance still on youtube. I remember the story. Perp blinded the young girl so she couldn't identify him. Forty years passed, and Frank died. After that, the young girl, by then a grown woman, revealed to the media she had had a birthday present, flowers, and money from Frank every year since her ordeal. He visited her in the hospital and took care that she was okay for the rest of his life.

You forgot to mention that Las Vegas refused to cast Sammie Davis Jr because he was black and at that point Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin refused to play in Vegas unless they permitted and accepted the casting of black performers. They then took a stand for equality and introduced black performers to the world by using their platform to get Vegas to cast them. Developing friendships and showing racist America that unity was the way to go. Count Bassie, Loui Armstrong, Ella's Fitzgerald and others were close friends of Frank and Dean. You also left out all the wonderful things they all did collectively.
